Guice is not a 1-dimensional "power back". His first instinct is to juke defenders, not run them over. He's much closer to Ezekiell Elliott / LeSean Mccoy than Marion Barber.Pullo Vision wrote: ↑Sun Mar 11, 2018 6:20 am When I think of violent power backs, I think of Marion Barber.
Rotoworld on his 2012 retirement-
"Barber isn't yet 29, but his body has begun to break down, particularly in the legs, and he's no longer an effective NFL runner. After a highly promising start to his career in Dallas, Barber averaged under 3.8 yards per carry in three of the past four seasons. The 2005 fourth-round pick was one of the NFL's most physical backs during the 2005-2007 campaigns, however, scoring 33 all-purpose touchdowns in his first three years. Ultimately, Barber was the personification of short shelf lives for power running backs in the NFL."
Games played over his career- 13, 16, 16, 15, 15, 13, 11.

I agree. Baffled me as well but I didn’t want to spin the thread off of Guice.KCLep20 wrote: ↑Sun Mar 11, 2018 10:39 am The most surprising part of this thread to me is how high people still are on Corey Davis...I might be completely wrong, but I just don’t see it...he doesn’t impress me, Mariota doesn’t impress me, and it sure doesn’t seem like he will ever be a WR1 and to take him ahead of some of these guys seems ludacris.
Re: Where would you rank Guice in the 2017 rookie class?
I think people are getting hung up on the "violent runner" press on him. He is violent in hitting the holes, he never wants to go down, but he's shifty as hell in the open field and some of the cuts he makes are jaw dropping. I don't see any particular weaknesses in his game, not even his receiving (what of it I have seen). I think he looks more natural catching the football than Fournette does, and he had 36 receptions this season.

Re: Where would you rank Guice in the 2017 rookie class?
As others have suggested, I'm not trying to say that Barber is a better comparable for Guice , just that years in the NFL, or games played, isn't the best way to determine long term fantasy usefulness. Barber tailed off badly towards the end, Peterson was relegated to committee back and may struggle for a contract this offseason, and Charles played games this year but didn't even deserve the designation change of pace back.Vcize wrote: ↑Sun Mar 11, 2018 7:59 amI think of Peterson and Lynch personally, both of whom had good career lengths.Pullo Vision wrote: ↑Sun Mar 11, 2018 6:20 am When I think of violent power backs, I think of Marion Barber.

And of course for every barber there is a Charles or Westbrook that played with an elusive style but was still done being relevant even with relatively low mileage.

Re: Guice
Yes, Guice is a beast and needs to be respected as the favorite for the #2 pick in rookie drafts. I do think Chubb could give him a run for that choice depending on which team drafts which player. But, Guice is fantastic and he's YOUNG, just 20 years old right now compared to Chubb at 22. Age means a LOT to dynasty RB value. Guice is the #2 right now.

Re: Guice
Problem with Guice is, his running style lends to not being healthy. Especially vs bigger NFL opponents. I kind of see him being like Fournette, constantly being dinged up. Really good player, though.kris_kapsner wrote: ↑Fri Mar 16, 2018 6:25 amYes, Guice is a beast and needs to be respected as the favorite for the #2 pick in rookie drafts. Re: Guice
Is there any actual data on this? Lynch and Peterson are two of the most violent contact seeking runners I can think of and they both had pretty long careers of fantasy relevance. Meanwhile Jamaal Charles and Brian Westbrook were great at avoiding hits and they both only lasted a short spell as lead backs.FantasyFreak wrote: ↑Fri Mar 16, 2018 9:02 amProblem with Guice is, his running style lends to not being healthy. Re: Guice
Wait... So Jamaal Charles' 5 seasons of 1000+ rushing yards is considered a 'short spell as a lead back'? His career has been shortened due to his lack of quickness at his older age but I wouldn't discount his career stats as a short period of time as a lead back in the NFL.Vcize wrote: ↑Fri Mar 16, 2018 10:20 am

Some of these expectations lately are getting out of control. If you get 3 years of solid production, that's a huge win. Some are acting like a guy has to give them 5+ years of top production or they are busts or not worth it. That's just silly. Those guys are very rare.

Re: Guice
This is true. Even LT2 only put up 8 seasons of his elite production...then fell off pretty quickly. If I get 4 years of stud years from a RB I count it as a major win.UATahoe wrote: ↑Fri Mar 16, 2018 11:31 am Some of these expectations lately are getting out of control.
