This seems like an osweiller type of signing.. you know he isn't the answer but you don't have anything better to throw money at so you sign him then find another QB to take over asap. Then trade away the well below average talent to a QB desperate team for a draft pick

agreed. I think people are a little hard on him. I've only watched a handful of Jags games though so I could be wrong, but his stats look fairly decent. $18mil/year isn't a massive contract either so it gives them the opportunity to build even more.

These guys are a good QB away from being super bowl favorites and they are going to waste this defense on him the same way the Bears wasted it with Grossman.

No. If the Jags get off to a bad start and bring in a respectable backup or good rookie, Bortles could easily get the hook.

Bortles just had his best finish in passer rating ranking for a season. He was #20 and that was in a down year for QBs. I think what Jags fans would want is a chance at a significant QB upgrade who would give the team a legitimate chance at winning weekly in one of the deepest FA and draft classes for QBs in recent memory.

The signing probably means Bortles was not going to pass his physical and his salary would be guaranteed for 2018. The contract will probably be a Glennon-like contract where he can be released after the 2018 season. Giving Bortles the 5th year option was just a complete screw up by the Jacksonville's management.

We could put up a poll of Winston or Bortles and Winston would win hands down despite never finishing ahead of Bortles. Fantasy owners prefer to follow collective beliefs rather than be their own free thinkers.
