Where does Winston rank?

Postby sunnyd23 » Thu Feb 22, 2018 8:50 pm

This post is on the fence of advice, but thought it might good reference for perspective in some leagues.

Superflex: Where does Jameis Winston rank in this year's rookie class?

Team in sig is transferring to a Superflex this year and we are all required to cut to 2QBs, thus Winston became available for this years rookie draft.

I'm still not sure Winston ever puts it together, so he's in the 1.05+ range for me...

He is an early 1st at least.. I would not trade him away for 1.02.
Like him or not.. His career trajectory the first 2 years is basically identical to Luck.

He obviously had a bad year but he was playing through a shoulder injury and the team basically did not have a bye.

He had 3 new weapons with zero chemistry, after another full offseason with Howard, DJax and Godwin I am expecting a big leap barring health.

I agree. I am one of his biggest supporters so I guess take my opinion with a grain of salt, but I think he's going to be a great fantasy producer for a long time.

Is he a great NFL QB? No, I don't think so, at least not yet. But he just turned 24 years old, 24 for a QB with 3 years under his belt is extremely rare. Carson Wentz is a year older with 1 less year under his belt in the NFL, so there is definitely still room for improvement with Winston.

The knock on him is that he is turnover prone, which is true. He also likes to throw and he produces a ton of yards. He was the only QB in history to throw for more than 4000 yards in back to back seasons to start his career. He threw for over 3500 last year, but he missed 3 games and essentially at least another 1 as he was knocked out in the 1st half in two separate games with his shoulder. He would have been well on his way to a career high in passing yards.

He's a knuckle head. He licks his fingers. But I think he is on the way up in terms of fantasy reliability.

I'm still a dynasty and SF rookie, but right now I would say he should be 1.02 or 1.03. After the qb rankings clear up a little we will see if he should be ranked ahead of all those guys.

I would undoubtedly take Winston over any rookie QB this year. He's still super young. He was injured last year. He'll bounce back and figure it out. Much better than an unknown.

P.s. This thread should probably go in the superflex forum.

I'd draft Rosen and Mayfield ahead of Crab Legs. And maybe Darnold as well, if he does well at the Combine.

Winston has not lived up to what was expected of him. He has regressed at a time when he was given a ton of weapons. The dude is a middling QB.

A better question might be where would Winston rank with this year's rookie QB's specifically. Then you can adjust for when QB 's typically come off the board in your superflex league, since it still varies widely within leagues. After Saquon, QB's will start coming off the board in most superflex rookie drafts. If Winston's there, I don't see how you pass on him at 1.02, unless there's some real rookie risers between now and then not named Barkley or you got religion for one of the RB's.

Winston's undoubtedly going to be immediately startable in superflex and produce quality numbers. However, a case could be made that at least one of Rosen or Darnold have higher upside. Since you already got 2 quality QB starters, you could afford to wait if you had such conviction, but I doubt any of them are still there at 1.08, your first pick.

Go grab Fitzpatrick if you play in SF/2B and own Winston I guess ...

I would take Rosen in a vaccum but Winston has a great setup and weapons around him for the long haul it looks like

x2

I’d have him after Saquon, Rosen, Mayfield all for sure.

Probably Darnold. Maybe Guice above him too.

Best finish in 3 seasons in 14th. Perhaps he puts together a couple decent seasons where he reaches the top 10 but I'm not banking on that. Relative to the rookies, definitely behind Mayfield and probably Rosen. I'd have him ahead of the others at this time.

I'm huge Winston fan and i would easily take him with the 1.02 after Barkley, but I do see why some people might have him as low as the 1.05 in this situation. He's only 24 with 3 years of experience at the NFL level and his floor is much higher than any of the rookies and will easily out score all these rookies for at least the next 2 years. Again I'm a Winston stan, so take this how you want.
