Interesting comments from Carr on Amari

Postby UATahoe » Fri Feb 16, 2018 12:43 pm

Basically said he played through injuries last year and most guys wouldn't have played with what he had. Didn't give specifics but I found it interesting. Here's to hoping Amari quiets the critics next year. I took a chance on him this offseason so hopefully it pans out.

I snagged Amari, Mahomes, and the 2.04 for Mark Ingram. I'm loving the trade so far.

I believe it. But then again he played through injuries at the end of his rookie year and stunk, and again the 2nd half of his second year and stunk again.

Maybe he's just the type of guy who doesn't play well when he's not 100%, and how often are nfl players 100%?

I would agree. He obviously has to improve going forward. I am nothing as down on him for last year though. He went through a stretch where he just had the yips. Lasted about 5 games and just ruined his season but I do feel like he really started playing better toward the end of the year and the brutal hit took 2 games away from him. Not gonna blame that in him. That hit was vicious.

On a year where the entire offense was down, I am of the belief that he definitely bounces back. But I do feel like his floor is a high end WR2 which I still think holds a ton of value.

His floor is a WR2 and his ceiling is top 5. The guy is a physical freak. I expect a huge bounce back next season for that whole offense. That's why I just bought Cooper. I really like him.

Interesting input from Carr.

But I find myself wondering, if Amari was so banged-up that "most guys wouldn't have played with what he had," how come it wasn't all over the injury report? Wouldn't we have known he was hurt like that?

Maybe I'm just being naive.

Pretty much, kind of weird how ppl are buying into this so much. Isn't this a typical off-season trope?

Simply stated it was an interesting comment. I don’t think anybody is naive enough to think it is without a doubt what caused his poor season. Either way, I still believe Amari bounces back.

*disclaimer I am in no way a medical professional and this is purely speculation*

There was a knee injury Cooper suffered around the second week of the preseason (no details were given about it) that caused him to miss the rest of the preseason and there was some talk he might not even play during the opener. Throughout the year he was either DNP or limited in practice pretty much every week but would always get cleared to play Friday/Saturday with very little said as to why he was limited.

Given what Carr has said, the length of the injury, and the fact that it seemed to be an issue all year (I believe it was the same issue all year, not separate problems) it wouldn't surprise me if it was some sort of ligament strain or possibly a really bad bone bruise. A fracture along the tibial plateau or the end of the femur would've required much more rest and would've eliminated several weeks of playing time. Any sort of tear or meniscus damage would've required surgery and a month or two of recovery depending on the severity. Factoring all that in I believe it was likely a ligament strain or a bad bone bruise.

To me this would explain a lot of the mental lapses that occurred this year that it seemed like Cooper had fixed previously. The shying away from contact and trying to make a move before securing the ball could have been him trying to avoid worsening what was possibly an already painful injury into one that could've threatened his career.

*again, not a medical professional in any way and am just purely speculating*

I can't believe we're actually going down this road but Carr made it seem like it was his foot not his knee or leg.

"that man was out there playing on one foot,” Carr said"
