Samaje Perine

Postby slaughterrt » Tue Feb 13, 2018 3:58 pm

Just took over an orphan (PPR) and Perine is on it. I own zero other shares of him and know very little about him.

He looks like an intriguing prospect though.

What’s everyone’s take on him?

(Fat) Rob Kelley was fending him off before he got hurt. From the few games i saw, he didn't look very good on the ground and he didn't look very good in the pass game either and they have Thompson for that role. I'd try to flip him for a pick this year and take another shot at a NFL 4th round RB.

Early reports suggest that the Redskins won't add much competition for him in the off-season. He was very pedestrian last year, outside of his back to back 100 yard games. His size is great at 5'11, 235, initial comparisons to Michael Turner. Obviously a beast in college. Who knows if they'll revert to Kelley as the main RB or not. Talk of Thompson playing a bigger role. Still some unanswered questions regarding his opportunity.

I personally think he'll get a more legit shot to start this year as Washington will want to see what they have and he'll either show what he can do or go the Andre Williams route. I have no problems moving him in the off-season but he's definitely worth rostering till we see what he can do.

I really liked his college tape and the physicality of his game and was a booster of his on the forum. I own no shares in dynasty (took the side of Foreman in the heated Perine early vs Foreman late debate last year), but I did take a late flier on him as a redraft stash. I was very underwhelmed by his play this year. To me he looked small, the brute physicality he had in the college game all of a sudden looked gone in comparison to NFL defenses. I'd sell if I had him.

I would want a top 16 to 18 pick to move him , I think this rb class (18) while terrific at the top drops off steeply after about the top 7 or 8 and then there are a ton of low ceiling guys , satellite backs and long shots .

He'll probably get a crack at the starting job, but he's a replaceable talent to me. He could still have some role as an early down or short yardage back, but don't see him as anything special.

I think he'll have another opportunity this coming season to nail down the starting gig and with Smith replacing Cousins it's fair to wonder whether the run game will feature a bit more prominently. I think he's a hold if you have him unless you can sell for an early 2nd or as a throw in to seal a deal to move up. I wouldn't be buying at this time and probably not at all unless he shows out in preseason.

I'm going to wait and see if the game "slows down for him" and he shows improvement. Not all rookie RB's can be Hunt or Kamara (who interestingly enough weren't viewed as top of class by most). If he turns in another pedestrian season I'll just offload him down the road.

But I'm not going to sell him for a 2nd round pick at the moment.

I drafted him last year (ahead of Hunt and Kamara  )

Saw he couldn't beat out Fat Rob for the starting job and was able to move him for a 1st 4 weeks in.

Feeling better about it now, still kicking myself for missing on both guys...I even preferred Hunt but didn't know how either would do at each landing spot.

I'd move him if I could. I think Thomas (who I had and flipped too) will take on a bigger role.

I'm about ready to throw in the towel on him already. Even with the news that washington might not add much to the RB depth chart, I'd rather cut my loses now and get what I can for a trade. Add him to a trade to help move up in draft or as a piece to a bigger trade. He looked average at best to me. Even if he looks good next season, I don't see much long term FF value. I'd rather take my chances picking up Keith Marshall off waivers right now.

I'm holding Perine. I think he has shown to be really impressive catching out of the backfield and for a big back that will be a nice part of his game that will help him get playing time. If he ends up being the grinder and getting goaline work with 3-5 rec sprinkled in, he will be worth a roster spot for me all day.
