Just read that Troy Niklas signed with the Pats. I hadn't seen any discussion on the forum regarding it. Anything to see?

^ it sounded like he no longer finds playing football fun and that he has been walking around with nagging injuries. It’s one thing playing through constant pain when you love the game, but that pain is tough and depressing when you aren’t enjoying what your doing. Kind of like regular work when you like your job long hours fly by and hard work isn’t a problem. When you hate your job the days drag on and you resent any extra hours. Also sounds like a lot of it has to do with disliking the Belichick system and structure.

I think its mostly just a cheap flier on a guy who is still only 25, came from an offense that didnt utilize the TE much at all, and has had injuries derail what little chance he did have with the Cardinals. Belichick loves a bargain. The Patriots owe Dwayne Allen around 5 mil this season (which the Patriots can clear entirely from their salary cap if they cut Allen), and just signed Niklas for under 1 mil. So almost undoubtedly, this is just a money move.

Now one insane out of the box thought i had was the Patriots just lost their LT, and Niklas was actually recruited to Notre Dame as a OT (ranked as the 24th best OL in the country his senior year of HS). Patriots OL coach once turned a guy who was exclusively a college wrestler into a solid starting OL for about 6 or 7 years. Maybe they bulk Niklas up to about 310, and see if he has any OL chops left. Im not saying he would contribute this season, but as far as fliers go Niklas reviving his career as a OL doesnt seem any more far fetched to me than him ever being a relevant TE.

Once guys throw the retirement idea in the head of owners, the value will never be the same. Aside from the fact he contemplated retirement,he is a big injury risk. He shouldn’t be getting elite prices. He is elite when he is on the field however, so the value lies somewhere in-between.

Not sure where his value is, I offered Winston/Engram for Ryan/Gronk/2019 1st in a Superflex/TE Premium and got rejected and I might be happy it did

Yea, im trying to gauge his value, I am as well nervous of the retirement talks, but lets say the guys plays 2-3 more years. is he worth it?

Guy in my league is looking to move his patriots, he might be one guy I would want to upgrade over Jack Doyle

If you are a contender, he is a top 3 TE with a limited window. If you are rebuilding you probably aren’t interested. It’s team dependent. He’s like Brady in QBs, McCoy in the RBs, Fitzgerald in WRs...they are number 1s and possible league winners, but because of the age they are absolutely valueless to a contingent of owners.
On a side note, Now is the time to strike if you are buying Gronk, or any of the type of players listed. If you are selling, u are likely better waiting till inseason to get a better deal.

That's disgusting...

I bought Gronk with a 2019 1st. I wouldn't pay an elite price, but I'm not giving up that pick for a guy like Funchess.
If you can't leave at least a 20% tip, you can't afford to eat out.
