I doubt mcdaniels turned down tennessee which more or less publicly begged him to take the job to take the colts gutter puddle franchise job with the thought of trading its one true superstar . I mean sure he likes jacoby brissett I imagine from their time in new england , so maybe he says

"hey bill lets do me a solid and trade Indy a dirt cheap 24 year QB to the team I will maybe get the coaching job on next year ? when I get there I will trade you andrew luck and you can win 2 more super bowls . I will then get fired after 20 games and come back to the OC job until you retire . I will then take over and win some more super bowls ".

jay cutler won 8 games with the team that 2 years before JAKE PLUMMER took to the conference championship and a couple years later tim tebow won a playoff game with !
kyle orton won same # of games following cutler in denver and cutler actually won less games 1st year following orton in chicago
andrew luck in that horrid rookie season you referenced won 11 games with a complete vomit bag of roster so yeah they are the same guy. where the hell is my emoji button?

I think there is 0% chance that Luck is traded and about a 95% chance that he is now fully healthy. If either of those statements are not true then McDaniels is making a very bad decision going to the Colts over other teams.

Scouts knocked him for being a small WR with a pattern of attitude problems. He was seen as a potential starter on special teams and possible role-player/backup on offense. He used those scouting reports as fuel when he trained. A year or so ago he showed a picture of one of those reports on social media, showing it still lingers for him.

According to Spotrac there is a potential out in his current contract as of next season:

Further down the page- "$12M 2018 salary fully guarantees on 3/18/2018"

If I'm reading that right, his 2018 salary is fully guaranteed in about 2 months. Cutting would leave the signing bonuses for 2018, 2019 and 2020 as the only cap-hitting money.

Interesting discussion and points so far all around.
I knew it would be a controversial opinion, but I've enjoyed reading all thoughts on this.

Yeah I dont see them cutting this off-season but

$44M guaranteed at signing (signing bonus + 2016 salary)
$7M 2017 salary fully guarantees on 3/13/2017
$12M 2018 salary fully guarantees on 3/18/2018
2017 Roster Bonus: $3M (guarantees 3/13/2017, paid 3/20/17)
2017 Roster Bonus: $3M (guarantees 3/13/2017, paid 9/18/17)
2018 Roster Bonus: $3M (guarantees 3/13/2017, paid 3/20/18)
2018 Roster Bonus: $3M (guarantees 3/18/2018, paid 9/18/18)
2019 Roster Bonus: $6M (guarantees 5th league day of 2019, paid 3/18/19)
2019 Roster Bonus: $6M (guarantees 5th league day of 2019, paid 9/17/19)
2020 Roster Bonus: $11M (guarantees 3rd league day of 2020, paid 9/15 & 12/15)
2021 Roster Bonus: $10M (guarantees 5th league day of 2021, paid 9/14/21 & 12/14/21

And this really only comes into play if Luck misses another year - or part of a year - or has a really awful year imho.

Just noting a team has an out in a year.

The need for a QB in DENVER and Elway connection with Stanford makes me think trade possible. Brissett should know McDaniels offense too.
DONKEY PUNCHERS....12 teams start 1qb, 1rb, 2wr, 1flex rb/wr/te, te, k, d/sp, 0.5ppr, all tds 6pts, 0.1pt run/rec yd, .033pt pass yd, .04 return yd all return tds 6pts, 20 player roster, 1 IR Spot, 2pt bonus all tds over 50yds...

RBs McCaffery, Kerryon, Drake, Breida, Gio

I know its rampant speculation on my part unlike the rest of the thread but his salary will end up a bargain by the time this off season concludes ? Once kirk (never won a play off game with a better team& weapons) cousins resets the market Luck's contract will be a comparative sweet deal for the colts . Irsay is used to paying exorbitant qb salary and luck is a generational talent . Jimmy G will also get paid more than luck and perhaps brees although brees deal will be short term or a bunch of fake $ in case he craters.
The colts for 2018 per under the cap have 82 MM $ cap space , they don't need to shed his salary and while brissett is a solid young qb lets be serious he ain't andrew luck. For all the belichick system hype he does have a losing record w/o tom brady; mcdaniels tried and failed with a non elite qb in denver he won't go down that road again even if he were of that mindset ,Chris Ballard & Irsay won't sign off on a hair brained scheme of that ilk. So speculate all you wish it has a near zero % chance of coming to fruition.

This is where I’m coming from as well and we also will *probably* see an extension for Rodgers and Ryan coming in pretty soon as well and IMO Rodgers will probably be looking for something north of 30m a year and Ryan somewhere above Stafford by about 2 or 3 million (playoff games, MVP, Super bowl appearance) but less than Rodgers . So to get luck for around 25M a year is a pretty nice bargain.

I voted for 25% only because I think the chance is above 0%. But, it's nowhere near 25%.

I think it's unlikely for multiple reasons. If the Colts think he's healthy, then they shouldn't trade away one of the best young franchise QB's in the league. If he's not healthy and the Colts would like to trade him, other teams will be leery of trading for him. So it's VERY unlikely.
