Trading back

Postby darewood11 » Tue Jan 16, 2018 5:56 pm

If you are trading down in a startup draft and have the 1.03 to 1.05 what would you be looking for to cover that value? I'm thinking of looking to get in a dynasty startup as I only have 2 orphans and just wonder what you can expect from trading down

I think the answer really depends on what your tiers are. Assuming most people have the 1.01 in a tier, but the next group is what? 1.02-1.04? 1.02-1.06? If it ends up like last year, where some people had 3 tiers of 2 (Fournette/Davis, CMC/Mixon, Cook/Williams) in 3 very close tiers, then I think it is whatever you feel comfortable with and how you feel personally. If you owned the 1.03 and felt you could get a Cook still at 1.06 then a move back for a 2nd seems fair - but if you have a tier break, and dont like a Cook as your fallback, then why sell too cheaply?
Please speak to clarion contrarion before considering the use of vetos..

In a startup, I don’t think you get that huge of a value for trading down 2 spots...mostly because there is not that much difference between players available at those spots. If you could get the teams 2nd or 3rd round startup pick, that’s a steal. But I wouldn’t expect that you would be gaining that much without also giving some more picks.

Best case scenario, you trade down those two spots, and maybe move up a few rounds later in the draft.

I think you should wait until after the draft before considering moving down unless you get an obviously great deal.

Probably not much maybe a second round rookie pick or a bump a half round later in the draft. In a startup there’s just not that much of a drop off there.

The 3rd to the 5th pick is more of a preference to the person. Also, I wouldn't trade back like that ahead of time, wait until on the clock to do any tiny moves like that. What if when your 3rd pick comes along, the guy you think should be the 1.1 is still there because 1 and 2 valued players differently?

I would try to find people interested in trading up ahead of time, and lay out some vague framework (if the player I want is there, I will trade up and give you X..)

I generally would be happy to trade a first round pick for a second and third, and I would be happy to take the other side of the trade too. Obviously if it's the first pick or last pick in the round that changes things, but in general I think it's fair.

I play with some owners who I've offered the deal to. They freak out and say no way. So then I offer the opposite. They freak out and say no way. Owners like that are the ones that drive me nuts. If I'm ripping you off on the first offer, you should at least feel like you're ripping me off when the tables are turned.
