Historically it's a bad move when your projection was that high. Too much to gamble going back.

While it may not be the wisest move for his football career, maybe he just doesn't care? After all, the guy is studying to become a doctor and working in stem cell research. He's not your typical "student athlete" who's more athlete than student.

See, now to me this sheds completely new light. If his entire lifes dream was to play football like most players than hes a fool. But if he has pursuits outside of football, than thats A-ok if hes staying in school.

Also, "typical" was a poor choice of words on my part. The vast majority of athletes at the NCAA level are students first. It's just when looking at the big-money sports like football, basketball, and baseball it seems many of those athletes are in college as a stepping stone for their opportunity to break in to the professional ranks.

Did not know this. Definitely changes my opinion on the decision. Yes, he could play NFL and finish his degree later, or do summer classes for the last year, like plenty of guys do but it would definitely mess with his research as he wouldn't have access to a Stanford level lab or the professor he was working under any more

If his decision to play college ball one more year before going to the NFL and making millions was to finish up whatever he was researching under the tutelage of a professor he greatly respected, mad hespect to him

In that case super props to him, I don't blame him for focussing on school knowing that he is studying to be a doctor and stuff, always good to have that backup

His high school GPA (4.5) was higher than his 40 time (4.4), the wheels are turning in all the right places for this kid. Not surprised he is staying another year, given the science behind concussions in the NFL, NFL careers, and life after the NFL. Remember he's graduating from Stanford, not some safety school.

Maybe, just maybe a kid smart enough to attend Stanford sees value in a diploma from said school.
I am just a guy sharing some thoughts

So true. Especially the life expectancy of a RB in the NFL. It would be a completely different story if he was say a QB but he just isn't. Smart play on him to just finish that education now.

Completely support the decision to stay in school. I will say though if he wants to be a doctor, wouldn't surprise me if that means a very short NFL stint isn't in the cards. Would still have 10 years of school left to become a doctor. Will be interesting to see how this one plays out. If he is that determined wouldn't be surprised to see him opt for a medical career and no football.

Reminds me of Robert Smith with the Vikings. Though he did play for eight seasons.

It does have me wondering if his interest in pursuing medicine will scare NFL teams away? How much draft capital do you want to spend on a player who may or may not want to have a lengthy career in the league?

I don't see why. Most teams probably don't assume any given player will be with them for more than their rookie contract anyway.
