From ESPN:

Bell is comfortable with his legacy in the game and makes clear he cares more about setting a precedent for running backs than earning a few extra million dollars. From his patient running style to his business approach, Bell is drawn to doing things differently, he said, and the birth of his daughter last year has become a factor for him to consider.

"I've made a lot of money, I'm happy where I'm at, I've got a good family -- I don't really need to play football," said Bell, who has made around $16 million for his career. "Right now, I'm just kind of doing it because I love it. Now, I've done everything but own a Super Bowl ...

"I don't necessarily care about the money aspect of it. I just want to be valued where I'm at. If I am playing this game, I want to set standards for all the other running backs behind me, like Todd Gurley and Ezekiel Elliott, Melvin Gordon, guys like that. I'm a guy they can kind of look at. I feel I can do that. I'm in a position where I can do that, and I'm going to do it."

I figured so, as I was in general agreement with the rest (including the coaching dislikes)

The truly amazing part is that the players allowed the CBA to let them be franchised twice. Another example of how they are the worst negotiators ever...

well considering he only made 4 million total prior to this year I'd be a little offended if I were him too with the way it went down last year. Brown got the highest offer for a WR ever without question, then they low-balled Bell with the $60mil deal considering AP got a $96mil contract before.

He's proven this year that he can truly be a full workhorse back (400+ touches) and has been a dominate force for awhile. Steelers can easily afford to pay him considering their QB contract price is about to go WAY down when Ben retires and they draft someone

15 mil. A year for a RB isnt this Murray all over again.

How many teams have won or been to the SB with a high payed RB.. ?
Lynch was making 10-12 with the Hawks I think. Ray rice made good money in '13.

Seems like coaching and QB play is #1 priority, then a all star defense is a close second
Pats
Hawks
Colts with manning
Ravens when joe flacco proved he was elite
Packers
Saints
(even though I dont think Payton or McCarthy are that good)
Thats what i mean.

I Think it would be Wrong to use 15. Mil on a RB for the Steelers. When the draft is full of them.
Conner + Love would be interesting combo

Here is a list of players who got franchised in 2017 - the amount they would make if they stayed under the franchise tag that year and the tender at each position - and if thats horrible negotiating (based on a salary amount) then I want them to negotiate my next collective agreement.

If it was any longer, every player would be on IR by now.

Care to explain how? All I can see is that a player who is franchise tagged is likely getting 10m or more for that year, and every year they get franchised the amount simply gets higher - for example if the Redskins for some reason decide to tag Cousins for a 3rd year in a row he'd make $30+ million on that tag.

I think the players had bad negotiation on other things like the fact that they can basically get suspended if Goodell decides they should be suspended under the personal conduct policy - but the franchise tag is not one of those.

An "exclusive" franchise player must be offered a one-year contract for an amount no less than the average of the top five salaries at the player's position as of a date in April of the current year in which the tag will apply, or 120 percent of the player's previous year's salary, whichever is greater. Exclusive franchise players cannot negotiate with other teams. The player's team has all the negotiating rights to the exclusive player.
A "non-exclusive" franchise player must be offered a one-year contract for an amount no less than the average of the top five cap hits at the player's position for the previous five years applied to the current salary cap, or 120 percent of the player's previous year's salary, whichever is greater. A non-exclusive franchise player may negotiate with other NFL teams, but if the player signs an offer sheet from another team, the original team has a right to match the terms of that offer, or if it does not match the offer and thus loses the player, is entitled to receive two first-round draft picks as compensation.
Under the Capped years a team can designate one additional player only as a transitional tag. A transition player must be offered a minimum of the average of the top 10 salaries of the prior season at the player's position or 120 percent of the player's prior year's salary, whichever is greater. A transition player designation gives the club a first-refusal right to match within seven days an offer sheet given to the player by another club after his contract expires. If the club matches, it retains the player. If it does not match, it receives no compensation.

So yeah still waiting for an explanation as to how this is the worst negotiating of all time ...
