Looking Ahead to 2020 - QBS Part II

Postby ArrylT » Wed Jan 10, 2018 8:19 pm

Looking ahead more than 2.5 years to the start of the 2020 season - so Sept 2020 (2 years 8 months) which of the following Quarterbacks do you believe will still be in the NFL. Keeping in mind the expected influx of the 2018 class, and then 2 more classes after that:

I do not mean which will still have fantasy value - just which of them do you feel will be on NFL Teams either as a starter or a backup (not practice squad or FA wanting to be on roster).

Pick as many or as few options as you wish. You can change your vote if other owners comments convince you to do so - but honesty and admitting a vote change would be appreciated.

All QBs are under the age of 26 (ie 25 or younger)

Sorry if I spelled a name wrong.

I used this list.

If you see any QBs under 26 that you feel should be mentioned feel free to add a write-in vote.

If a QB has no votes for an extended period I will be willing to insert your write in vote instead.

None of the QBs listed currently has a starting job apart from maybe Kizer and almost everyone expects him to lose it in 2018.

So basically this is a thread where you can bang the drum for your favorite underrated QB that you feel can still stick - even as a long term journeyman ala Hoyer / Keenum / Fitzpatrick etc.

They must be a starter or serious backup - not 3rd or 4th string qb nor practice squad or FA.

I voted Hundley - he's the only one on this list I feel has a strong chance to possibly be relevant in a couple years.

I would say Bridgewater cause of the feel good story, but something tells me it won't end well.

2017 rookies will still be under contract for the 2020 season. They'd have to completely bleep the bed to not still be on an NFL team in 2020. Beyond that group, I took Kessler, Hundley, Brissett & Bridgewater.

Garrett Greyson was drafted in the 3rd round of the 2015 draft by the Saints, but was released in Sept 2016 , put on the practice squad, then waived again in Sept 2017 and is now on another teams practice squad. Since he was drafted in 2015 this wold have been his 4th year so he'd still be under contract by the Saints if they had not waived him.

Thats what I am referring to when I am talking about QBs on the fringe / practice squad. They dont have to be having real fantasy value but they at least have to be on active rosters and considered real backups to have potential to start a game ala Kessler did in 2017. So yes some of these QBs will still be floating around - but will they be realistically considered starters/backups/journeymen or will the only time they see game action is if 2-3-4 QBs ahaed of them all miss time - like a Matt Moore / Mark Sanchez.

Are the requirements solely being rostered (Moore & Sanchize are rostered) or being a viable QB?

Viable QB definitely. Obviously this varies from person to person.

Now that the Senior Bowl week is under way and some possible Rookie QBs are practicing - wonder how that will affect how some owners see some of the above still young QBs.

To me all the 2017 rookies will be on roster, cheap qb depth is just so valuable. Brissett I think is bound for the low end journeyman starter role. Teddy I think is the same or at least hangs around as a backup. That’s about it though

I live in Wisconsin so watched Hundley quite a few times this year. He's horrible. I called out (went to Lambeau and saw Pack vs Tampa Bay live) that every time he attempts a pass over 15 yards, he overthrows it by 5 or more that week. Every. Single. Time since then I was proven true. Once you realize it, you'll realize he can't throw a ball accurately beyond the first down line. Overthrow is safer than underthrow which is why its hasn't been noticed as much, but still not NFL starting QB worthy

Hundley proved he's nothing more than a backup, and not a long term one at that, this year

I had previously voted for Paxton Lynch - but the reports out of Denver in regards to his work ethic have me concerned ...

With Kizer landing in GB I've added a vote for him because he'll likely remain there for the remainder of his rookie contract (and its a good situation to develop imo).
