Saquon Barkley - RB - THE RB Y'all

Postby WhatWouldDitkaDo » Fri Jan 05, 2018 10:50 am

I've seen Saquon Barkley mentioned in hundreds of threads re trades, but I haven't seen a thread exclusively dedicated to discussing him as a prospect. My thoughts are that he is legit 3-down workhorse RB who could be the next Le'Veon Bell in the right situation. He looks like a real difference maker, and while there is some concern with Barkley bouncing runs outside, it's mostly as a result of running behind a poor offensive line. Because of that, I think I'd honestly rather see CLE draft him than IND. Regardless though, I think he's going to excel in the NFL and be fun as hell to watch. Aaannnd...GO

I'm not worried about him going to Cleveland. They have a good line and I think they are about to get a good QB.

At this point I'm hoping Cleveland gets Kirk or someone in free agency and drafts Saquon first. I think he would do very well behind that line.

I have no opportunity to get Barkley anywhere so I am indifferent..

But to be honest; I think there is a good chance he ends up being disappointing at this rate.
The hype train is out of control and I still cannot ignore the "hit rate" on 1st round talents, especially RBs (although the last few years have skewed people to forget about it).

Am I saying Barkley will bust?
No - but even if he ends up as a low-end RB1 or high-end RB2; you could argue he will be a disappointment.

This is where I stand as well. Because of Zeke's rookie season, it's hard for any RB to live up to the #1 rookie draft pick fever. I'll admit, I thought Fournette would put up better numbers than he did this season, and he still produced RB1 numbers on paper. People see his 1040 rush yards and think that's low for how much hype he got going into the 2017 rookie draft.

I thought Fournette outperformed expectations given the mediocre line and stacked boxes he saw all year. Injuries slowed him down late and that has really been his biggest concern.

Tough for Barkley to replicate Zeke's rookie numbers given a far worse line than the Cowboy's (best in football?). If he is a low end rb1 in year one, I would say that is a win.

He is my RB1 in dynasty. Odds are pretty good that he is a Brown but I still think his ranking wouldn’t change for me.

He’s a better “prospect” then anyone I have evaluated over the last 5 years. Please spare me with the “he hasn’t even taken a snap” narrative. Gurley, Elliott and Fournette didn’t take a snap at one point.

Too many question marks surrounding the top guys. Gurley has the least blemishes, but if I can get a similar player and reset 3 years at a position with the shortest life span I am all over that.

Might be a case of dropping the ball instead :?:

As talented as Saquon might be a lot of being#1 overall is dependent on situation. As of yet we don't know his so I can't crown him the best. If he goes to the Giants I probably don't have him top 5 in a PPR lg. But that may change depending on who becomes the next coach. That would be similar to Mixon landing in Cincy except Barkley would get to be lead dog right away. Horrible line , beaten up vet qb, lots of passing weapons that need get fed.

In that case I still have Le'Veon, DJ , Zeke, Kamara ahead of Saquon with Fournette, Mixon, Hunt all potentially finishing ahead over the next 3-5 years. That's without another RB from this class hitting it big. I always look for the Black Swan :wtf:

I fully expect Barkley to follow in the footsteps of recent top overall picks (Gurley, Zeke, Fournette) and succeed regardless of the landing spot. I can't wait to see the deals that get done for him. I can already picture the bidding wars that will happen.

Two of my leagues do a lottery to determine the top 4 picks. I currently have 50% and 40% chance at the top overall pick. Unfortunately, we don't do the lottery until March, so I'll have to sweat through a couple of months before finding out if I will get Barkley or not. Here's to hoping I can get him on at least one of the two teams.

Oof. That's brutal. Why wait so long? It forces team to wait forever to evaluate their offseason goals.

I think it's more to make sure there is stuff going on throughout the year and not long periods off. So the season just ended. NFL playoffs in January. Super Bowl in February. Lottery in March. NFL Draft in April. Rookie draft in May.

Also, we all know each other, so we'll try to meet up and do it live if possible. Last year we assigned playing cards to cups filled with beer and played beer pong to randomly determine the results. Live streamed it all on Facebook to those who couldn't make it.

Thats better than my leagues. They all do a lottery for the bottom 6, even odds for all 6 teams. Its actually pretty rare thw worst team even gets a top 3 pick, but they say it discourages tanking and such. Gotta love Masters fantasy Leagues.
