Gruden loved carr and gushed about him at his QB camp when carr came out of college. I think they will be just fine

What has Carr ever done to deserve to be traded to Cleveland?

I think it’s super unlikely, but Gruden got offered 10 years and $100 million. He’s got more guaranteed money than any player. That’s conceivably enough money to get him to take the job even if he doesn’t like Carr.

There’s also precedent for this kinda thing- the Broncos hired McDaniels who promptly traded Cutler.

Again, I think it’s really unlikely. But if Dorsey decides he’d rather have Carr than picks #1 and 4, if Gruden doesn’t like Carr, maybe they collectively decide to go with Rosen and Barkley.

Gruden taking the job only tells me that he believes the world of Carr. Every year there's a calling for him to come out and every year it's a several month rumor that leads to nothing. There wasn't even a decent gap this year. He's all in and believes in the base of the team. I just don't see anything crazy happening except how he builds his coaches. Too talented of a team to not take a step forward with better coaching.

RB- Montgomery, RoJo, Lindsay, Michel, Gurley, Vaughn, Foreman

I love my Raiders.. But they are VERY far from being "too talented of a team". You could literally argue the exact opposite of too talented..

All Gruden taking the job tells me is that he has a massive ego and likes the idea of having $100 million. But I have to admit I do like your reasoning better. 8-)

What do people expect of Derek Carr?

Postby kris_kapsner » Thu Feb 15, 2018 6:02 pm

Derek Carr seems like a "buy low" target potentially. He didn't have the greatest season last year and has fallen into the teens in production and dynasty rankings for QB's. Does anyone expect him to become a top 8 dynasty QB at some point?

Just checked what the consensus thought of Carr entering 2017. Dynasty ADP on fantasy football calculator (pulls thousands of drafts) had him as the #3 dynasty QB behind Rodgers Luck. That’s where the average dynasty draft notched him entering last season. Funny what one bad season (bad system which is why the coach is gone) can do to consensus perspective of a player...

Reminds me of 2016 Gurley. I drafted Gurley at #18 in a dynasty startup draft. I could see a similar situation this season with Carr.

Derek Carr is basically Andy Dalton behind a superior offensive line. (Disclaimer: I am one of the few that like Dalton)

He will never be an elite QB but is a QB2 with occasional QB1 upside.

To be fair his stock was way overinflated, I could see a top 10 but there are too many other talented QBs who are either younger or just far outclass him. In no particular order Rodgers, Newton, Wilson, Wentz, Winston, Watson, Stafford, Goff and Prescott should all easily be ahead of him and as soon as he starts throwing again I'm putting Luck in there as well. Carr should be a QB1 in all but super shallow leagues and he's got about as much value as any mid-tier QB in a 2QB/SF league but I wouldn't expect insane numbers from him.

I could see him flirting with 4000 yards again with 25-28 TDs and 12-14 Ints and maybe 1 or 2 games where he has 325+ yards and 3 TDs but overall he'll be pretty average.

This is what I was thinking as well. Both Carr and Dalton need weapons around them to produce. A couple injuries and their seasons can go south in a hurry.

He was pretty banged up in 2017. I don't think he's a stud but he isn't as bad as last season's performances.
