Carr's performance is being rewared in DLF November ADP. Your #5 QB, right by Wilson.

Dynasty QB1? I am a Raiders fan, but no chance I have him anywhere near #1 overall. I'd pretty comfortably take these guys over him right now:

-Andrew Luck, Cam Newton, Aaron Rodgers
-Matthew Stafford, Russell Wilson, Marcus Mariota, James Winston, Matt Ryan

He's in in my tier three with Wentz and Rivers, but I could understand moving him into tier two. Moving him into tier one with Luck/Newton/Rodgers types just seems like an overreaction to me, and he'll eventually level off below those guys.

Wow...you have him all the way into tier three. I'm not sure he's in the top tier, but I was thinking he might be in tier two. I have Bortles as well, and I can't get a bag of name brand chips in return for him in my league.

I agree with this as well, as a fellow Raider fan.

I love Carr and he has been amazing - don't get me wrong; but as alluded to earlier by Dook (yet another Raider fan), if you get the kind of time that Carr gets from his offensive line - you BETTER look good. Look at what Dak is doing behind the Cowboys offensive line. That is a QB that was drafted in the middle rounds, opened the year as 3rd QB and a couple of injuries thrust him into this position.

Look at how a guy like Andrew Luck struggles, but "when he gets time"; he is great. Do you think it is any coincidence that Russell Wilson looks bad now with the way that line is performing? The offensive line is the best friend of a QB.

So yes, I love Carr - but all this talk of him immediately being thrust into that top tier is pretty crazy.
If I owned him and could get "top tier" prices for him; I would sell in a heartbeat.

Derek Carr may not mesh with Jon Gruden

Postby mlynarcm » Thu Jan 04, 2018 6:00 pm

Hear me out. The top draft QBs dont want to go to Cleveland. Jon Gruden wants his own QB. Raiders trade Derek Carr and the 10th pick to the Browns. Browns have a possible franchise quarterback and two top 10 picks because the Jon Gruden may not want Carr. Gruden gets his QB, the Browns get even more than expected. Thought?

lol.

That trade won't happen after the contract the Raiders just gave him.

Raiders fans love Carr; the Gruden signing is supposed to excite Oakland for their last year - not infuriate them.

What does Oakland and their fans have ro do with it? They're going to Las Vegas and will be building a new fan base.

Do you know how much money they would lose out on if nobody attended the Oakland games over the next year?
Signing Gruden is a publicity move - just like signing Lynch was.

With that said - you make it sound like there will be no Raiders fans and they will have to build an entirely new fan base.
Not true.

Nothing about your idea makes sense.

Their not putting out that Jon Gruden might not like Derek Carr if their not trying to see what they can get for him. The only thing youre looking for by getting rid of you QB is the ability to get your future QB. Which Is why I said looking to trade Cleveland.

How do you figure? Gruden isn't going to actually be able to run a practice with Carr prior to the draft and I can't see why either side would be all that motivated to make such a high-risk move.

I understand as a Raiders fan you're biased and as a Browns fan I'm biased, But someone obviously leaked that Gruden might not like him and I'm fine with reaping the benefits. Because outside of your belief it is possible

Your idea still makes zero sense.

You don't bring a new coach in and trade away your franchise quarterback.

Also - you should probably treat this report with a grain of salt.
Remember when the initial report stated that Gruden would get an ownership stake?

We are entering the off-season; where a ton of nonsense gets thrown around to try to make headlines.
It sounds like you read a headline and didn't look into it.

Youre right. There's always a lot of smoke and mirrors. Some are real, some are fake. I guess we'll see what happens, but until said differently Carr may not be the Raiders future QB

Rather than dive into it, let’s just say there is zero chance this happens. I say zero on purpose and confidently. You even have ‘may not’ in the title...

Highly doubtful, teams pretty much never trade franchise QBs, especially not after signing them to huge deals, it screams mismanagement to the ownership and fan base. Makes even less sense if you look at Carr's contract, there's a total of 80.5 mil in deadcap on it and 65.5 of that was front loaded into this year and next, so they could potentially release him after next season (highly unlikely) and only have 7.5 mil in dead cap.

If you're the Raiders what would you do, trade your franchise QB in the last year before you change cities and say "screw you" to your fans or would you rather (again, highly unlikely) release him next year without having to lose basically anything for it and possibly draft a new QB for your new city as a draw to pull people to your games?

Either way I see 0 reason for them to get rid of Carr but even if they were planning on it, why would they do it this year?
