Group of scrubs? Jerry Rice & Tim Brown are in the HoF. Charles Woodson almost certainly will be. Rod Woodson is another HoFer. Gruden certainly turned Gannon's career around, but guys like Darrell Russell, Barrett Robbins, Grady Jackson, Charlie Garner and more than a few others would be pretty hard to define as scrubs.

Calling his Raiders team a group of scrubs shows how uninformed you are. I would say that Raiders team had much more talent than this Raiders team.

That said; if Del Rio can lead us to 12 wins I would hope Gruden will win games if he is even serviceable.

Thankfully the ownership stake thing has been debunked.

I'll give you Tim brown and Darrell Russell, great players. The rest were brought in by Gruden and his staff.

Jerry rice was coming off back to back 800yd seasons before joining Grudens offense.

In my opinion the roster he is inheriting this time around is far better. They have 19m in cap and the 10th? Pick in the draft..

Like I said to another, we will check back in but I think this is a phenomenal move for the raiders.

I don't doubt that Gruden will win games. Del Rio won games too. I just doubt that Gruden will be the elite head coach that the Raiders will pay him as.

Gotta give Gruden credit on his plan. He won a Super Bowl in TB with Dungy's team, was mediocre afterwards, and took enough time off to make people forget about it. Then he got a primetime announcing job to criticize others and show off his football knowledge. His legend took off and now he's going to make even more than he was at ESPN.

@AdamSchefter
Raiders are giving new head coach Jon Gruden a 10-year contract, the longest coaching deal in NFL history, sources tell ESPN. The deal is likely to be worth about $100 million.
....I really, really hope that is not true....

I'm sure there are outs for the team built in though. The guaranteed amounts/years on an NFL contract are never close to the full amount reported in these blurbs.

True that is usually the case, and it will be interesting to find out what the details of the deal ultimately are. Hopefully Mark Davis learned his lesson after now being on the hook for some of Del Rio's extension he signed just 11-months ago. I couldn't find the numbers, but imagine they still owe him a hefty chunk-of-change. Probably at least 8-figures ($10-15 mil?).

And since Davis is the league's least wealthy owner, if Gruden doesn't pay dividends early on it will be very difficult for the Raiders to eat another Head Coach's salary and move on. Davis might not be able to afford it.

3 of the top 7 are not even coaching anymore.. I'm sure it is accurate for the current coaches, maybe. But yeah.

The Raiders are expected to move on from Reggie McKenzie and give full control to Jon Gruden.

Welcome to the end of days.
