Is Phillip Lindsay on anyone’s radar?

Postby M-Dub » Thu Dec 28, 2017 10:42 pm

I’m a lifelong Colorado Buffaloes homer, so I’m definitely biased, but I think he’s legit. Haven’t really heard him mentioned in any rookie RB discussions, so I’m curious if any of you guys have any opinions on him or have even heard of him.

He’s the Buffs’ all-time leader in all-purpose yards and yards from scrimmage. Has great hands out of the backfield, with 100+ catches and 1000+ yards in his four years at CU. Finished 9th in the FBS in rushing yards this year. Seems to have good vision. Doesn’t really do a lot of dancing around in the backfield or trying to bounce runs outside.

As far as cons go, he’s a smaller back at 5’8” and 180 lbs. He ran well between the tackles at CU, but not sure that’d be his strong suit in the NFL. He’s also a 5th year senior, so pretty old for a rookie. He turns 24 in July.

Anybody have any thoughts on where he might go in the NFL draft and/or in dynasty rookie drafts? If I had to guess, I’d say he’s a 3rd day pick in the NFL and maybe late 3rd/early 4th in rookie drafts. Probably depends a lot on his combine results.

Here’s a short highlight video if you’re interested:

Was not familiar with him, so thanks for the introduction. Those receiving stats for a back are fantastic! How is he athletically? As a smaller back I think his athleticism will be an important determining factor whether he gets drafted or not?

We won’t really know until the combine. The best I could find was a 4.49 40 time from when he was a HS recruit in 2012. Who knows how accurate that is?

5'8, better be truly special. I am sure the lazy Darren Sproles comps will soon follow from draft nicks.

Local Denver guys love him but time will tell

I've had him on my list for a while. I have a couple late round selections with his name on them. Best case output is probably Cohen's rookie season if he lands in a great situation.

Agreed. I don't like to talk down on anyone who can perform at the college level because that is still a lot of skill but as far as NFL is concerned, nothing to see here.

Going to pile on here. He is basically Tarik Cohen. He could be a nice spot-start, but not someone who will ever be a solid contributor.

Then again, in the fourth round getting a spot-starter is not a bad return if your rosters are large enough.

Only going off eye-test here but I think Cohen is a VERY generous comp. Every year there are 20 try-hard small college backs who put up decent numbers. Cohen is pretty unique

Great point. I should have written that his ceiling is Cohen. I loved Cohen last year but stayed away because of his size.

Just like most want to comp Michel to Kamara here they want to compare Lindsay to Cohen.

In both cases it is flawed... Michel is no where near the receiver Kamara is. Maybe in running they're close. Kamara more patient but Michel a bit more power.

Cohen's ability to stop and start is unparalleled in today's game. Lindsay has quick acceleration and even better straight line speed than Tarik but his vision and ability to hit creases in a split second isn't on Cohen's level.

Still I'd keep him on my watch list to see if Lindsay gets a great fit landing spot. Not a for sure pick on draft board.

I think best case is dion lewis axis likely more like a jerome harrison type that just isn't sturdy enough to carry the ball more than a few times a game but a solid receiving weapon . Harrison a bizarre case played in 7 seasons 1681 yards rushing and 7tds the kicker in a 3 game stretch to close the 2009 season he had 106 carries 561 rushing yards and 5 tds in his other 60 games 250 carries -1120 yards rushing and 2 tds . I thought he looked like a skilled runner/receiver but I would not spend a pick on him just add him as a waiver wire flyer.
