Yeah I doubt it will, but it's BS if it doesn't happen imo.

http://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/2186 ... s-released

This link explains it better. They could have benched him, but they chose to put him on IR, breaking the rule, which should force them to release him. Only time will tell I guess

It's not moving him to waivers, it's a straight release. He would be free to sign with whomever, but given the player, he would likely just re-sign with Green Bay anyways. Might be able to get some additional money though.

Browns get Rodgers if he is released. They have #1 waiver priority- any vet released this late in the season is subjected to the waiver process. It's not going to happen, bet they get punished with a fine and loss of a mid-round draft pick or something...

There's no chance the NFL allows Rodgers to be released. More likely some type of other penalty.

Vikings fan living in Wisconsin. This is just a pipe dream for anyone hoping this means Rodgers should be forcefully released

Statement from team doctor is that the soreness for the IR move is not from the collarbone and they’re on the clear

Everyone knows that Rodgers was inactivated because he’s not 100% and no sense to chance it with playoffs not even possible. No one cares that that’s technically against the rules as it’s the smart thing to do

I don't think Aaron Rogers wants to play anywhere else. He could refuse to sign with the other 31 teams.

You don't think he wants to play anywhere else? WHAT!? LOL. I think he'd play nearly anywhere else. The Packers have done NOTHING to give him a decent team around him. If your argument is based on fan support, id argue that fans love greatness. It doesn't matter where he goes, he is great therefore he will have fan support anywhere.

It was just my opinion that he didn't want to play for another team. If read, I said he could refuse to sign with another team, I didn't say he would refuse.

If I were Rodgers I'd 10000000000000% want to play somewhere else... Pull a Favre and got to the Vikings, the rosters is 10000000000000× better than the Packers, and with Rodgers the Vikings would be a shoe in for the Superbowl imo. Packers haven't done many favours for Rodgers, they are pretty mundane outside of a handfull of players

I think Cleveland's roster is comparable to the Packers (not including Rodgers of course). I honestly think the Packers would be in the bottom third if Rodgers wasn't elite. And I think Cleveland's has some decent pieces, good defense, oline, a good receiver.

From the local Milwaukee paper, giving a practical response rather than a letter-of-the-law response. It's a non-starter, folks. Though perhaps fun to pipe-dream about it...

"This claim (as reported by ESPN.com) that the Packers should have to release Aaron Rodgers when he’s healthy because they violated injured-reserve rules when they sat him for the rest of the season is a crock. I’d call it a Hail Mary, but a Hail Mary has a much better chance of succeeding. This is just complaining for the sake of complaining. According to the report, IR rules mandate that if a player goes on IR he has to be medically unable to play for at least six weeks, and if he’s healthy before six weeks then the team has to release him when he’s cleared. That might be the letter of the law, but teams at the end of the season routinely put guys on IR whose injuries will make them miss the rest of the season but wouldn’t sideline them for six weeks. As former Packers front-office executive Andrew Brandt tweeted, “Good luck with that. Players with hang nails are put on IR this time of year.” The league already has signed off on Rodgers going on IR, so it’s a done deal. I guarantee you every team that called the league office to complain – the ESPN report said only that it was multiple teams – has done something similar in the last few years. This is a big nothing."

Funny corollary: From Mike McCarthy's press conference today, talking about an offensive lineman who got injured (knee) in the game yesterday immediately after discussing Rodger's IR status (and how the league approved it):

“A serious injury. When he gets back here Wednesday, we’ll probably talk about the potential of him going through the procedures and following the rules to put a player on IR.”
