Can you build a team that you don't have to touch?

Postby BhamRudy » Wed Dec 13, 2017 10:20 pm

I was wondering if you can build a team that has youth and depth so good you don't have to touch it for a couple years? If can how long could you go without making trades? I am asking because I have been building team 1 in sig and I feel like I could just draft and play the WW for a couple years and stop trading. Is this a possibility?

You can always build a team without trading, only be active on the wire, and might end up with a successful run. But why remove a valuable tool from your toolbox?

Trading isn't technically essential, and yes we can all get trigger happy, but smart trading is a huge part of building stacked teams.

Agree with lukky. I mean, yeah, you can, but you should never rule out a trade as a possibility to make said team even better. Building a good team just affords you the luxury of being selective about the trades you make.
Both are 12-team 1QB PPR dynasties

Playing the WW is still making moves. I'm not a huge trader generally myself and tend to do alright.

A team in a 2014 start up went nuts with youth after his first pick, and lets say he has not had to do much traded. Alsodrafted DJ, so theres that too. Team in my sig I have not gone out of my way to shake up my roster much, but have rather been surgical and patient with trades. It can be a science when you have a strong and young team, but you can always improve and build for the future, slowly.

If the value is there and it helps my team, any move is an option. If I can't work a trade that helps my team, I won't trade.

It just gets tough to be competitive if you have injuries. Lose a couple RB's and there's nothing on the waiver wire, and you have to start 2, and you're in trouble.

you end up cutting value in order to pick up a waiver claim or draft......its possible, but ultimately....your losing a ton of value by cutting rosterable players. i have/had 2 teams that i think of as you are op....the problem always presents its self every draft. every offseason you can sell someone....but it presents issues of flowing through prospects or forfeiting picks.

Isn't part of the fun of playing to be active and make moves?

Sure you can load up your team and then be hands off but that doesn't seem very exciting.

I totally think you can. In fact it kinda is the goal for me in leagues...building a low maintenance contender. Where I don't need to find deals to stay in the hunt

To all you saying why take away tools or not doing something...he just asked it were possible. I think sometimes people are too trade happy. Ideally you should only be improving your team as you see it, not as others feel it could be better.

I prefer to touch all over my team then to leave it stagnant. If I didn't want to touch I would just play Best Ball

WR: Diggs, C. Davis, Gordon, Lockett, M. Williams, Godwin, John Brown, Tre'Quan Smith

LOL, well I'm sure that's the goal of any dynasty owner. In fact, I thought I would have a nice multi year window heading into last year with my current squad. However, the bottom line is that I would be utterly shocked if a team is EVER able to accomplish a feat like this. Going multiple years without making moves is near impossible. There are WAY too many injuries, and way too much chaos in a football season.

BUT, that doesn't mean its impossible lol. Good luck!

It all depends on the owner. Some like to make moves and be ultra-active, even if it does not improve their team/is lateral, or in some cases makes them slightly worse. That's why some play dynasty, not me at all, but i cannot knock it. I like variety and constant movement in other places in my life, such as dating. Hence why i will never settle down and marry most likely. I won't fault anybody who has the 'ol ball and chain though. What works for one, might not for the other. It absolutely can be accomplished though.
