How should I run a devy league ?

Postby freddog97 » Tue Dec 12, 2017 9:43 pm

As I have been eliminated from the playoffs in the few leagues I am in, I have shifted my focus onto how I should run a Devy league. I joined one last year and it is now my favorite league by far ! I want to create my own this off-season...I know it’s early !

Here’s what I’m thinking:
-12 teams
-Superflex PPR/TE premium
-Start: QB 2RB 3WR TE 2Flex 1Superflex
-5 man taxi for rookie/devy players
-35 man rosters+5 taxi

My question is when you hold start up draft do you have all rookies and devy players available to be drafted ? Or do you put in the rookie/Devy placeholders so a team would draft the pick (1.01 devy/rookie pick) then later hold the rookie/devy draft.

Would you add anything els into the league ? I was thinking about point per carry ?

Any advice on how to run and certain scoring/setting I should consider would be helpful !
20 team(2 copy) superflex Devy PPR(.5 RB, 1WR, 1.5TE) .25PPC
QBs: Lawrence, Darnold
RBs: Swift, Walker III, Pierce, Allgeier
WRs: Lamb, Higgins, Jeudy, Wilson(NYJ), Olave, Flowers, Cooks, Davis, Doubs
TE: Engram Kincaid Kmet Schoonmaker
Devy: Marvin Harrison Jr
2024: 1st 2nd 3rd 4th

Yeah, man, spread out the start-up as much as possible. I'd go so far as to say that you shouldn't do a draft. Do an auction instead, it's way more fun. And include the draft slots in the auction. Then hold the actual rookie draft and a separate devy draft later in the off-season. Again, spread it out, no sense in doing rookies and devys together. Do them apart and it will generate more activity. Have a big event each month. Auction in March. Devy draft in April. Rookie draft in late May. Then open up free agency in June.

As for scoring, anytime you do Superflex, make sure you balance the scoring out somewhat. Otherwise its just an arms race to see who can get two great QBs, game over. I've found that 4 pts per TD, -2 per INT, -2 per Pick6, and mild yardage scoring (i.e. 2 pts per 100 yards) works really good. It rewards good QBs and really hurts the bottom 16 (who will have some really woeful scores). The Tom Savages of this world should not be scoring double digits as a matter of course. Let them wallow in the 4-8 point range when they have a mediocre outing.
