Wild speculation on the 32 starting QBs 2018

Postby Valhalla » Fri Dec 08, 2017 9:33 pm

Just for fun...and to stir up some conversation
How do you speculate QB scenarios to go for your favorite NFL team? What are you hoping for? Obviously this is just guessing, but I find it a fun exercise...

AFC East
Patriots: It's Brady, and will be for a couple more years. They'll be sure to bring in a pretty decent backup...possibly even aim to draft an heir like they thought they were when they took Garoppolo. Brady is the energizer bunny, though.
Dolphins: Tannehill is under contract for another couple years, and he's the best they've got. He's not all that bad, IMO. People blame him for not bringing Parker to life...but maybe that's on Parker.
Bills: It's very possible this will be a rookie. I read something about Mason Rudolph going here...which was just some other person's wild speculation...but I'll go with it.
Jets: Baker Mayfield, just because it seems fitting for him to be in New York. I suppose he could also go to the Giants, but I'm putting him on the Jets, maybe just because of Namath

AFC North
Steelers: Surprise! Ben somewhat shocks the team and retires! Unfortunately the guy is so hem haw about it all that he allows free agency and the draft to roll by before retiring! The Steelers were wise enough to nab Tyrod Taylor in free agency as a backup, and he steps in to the starter role for a time. They manage to trade for AJ McCarron to the rage of Bengals fans...only to see that McCarron isn't all he's been hyped up to be. AB throws multiple tantrums.
Ravens: They are stuck with Flacco, the definition of "too good to bench but not good enough to drive the offense." Have fun, Ravens fans!
Bengals: They are stuck with Dalton, the definition of "puts up stats with a STRONG supporting cast...so he must be good...right? No." Have fun, Bengals fans!
Browns: Josh Rosen. I haven't studied the incoming class much yet, but he seems to look better/less mistake-prone than Darnold. I put Mayfield in New York for a fun fit, so Rosen gets to pass to Gordon, Coleman and Duke (Duke will play more slot as the Browns will draft another RB)

AFC South
Titans: Mariota. Pretty straight forward here. Although, something is nagging at me to speculate another injury. Sorry, Titans fans. You'll see 8+ games of Joe Webb as your starter, but it will be an interesting twist on the running game.
Jaguars: Bradford signs with this strong club and actually stays healthy in a very similar situation he was set up for in MN in 2017. Stellar defense, good running game, and much better weapons than what he has historically had to work with. His health intact, he leads the Jags to a deep playoff run. Of course, the Jags also draft some rookie like Thorson, but it doesn't matter in '18.
Colts: Luck, and he's healthy enough to play 14+ games...only to have a cleanup surgery late in the season when the club is out of playoff contention. It's revealed that he was playing hurt much of the season...again.
Texans: It's Watson, but he's nothing close to what everyone expects him to be. He'll come back to earth much like how Mariota's balloon has been deflated.

AFC West
Chiefs: As much as everyone will be up in arms about it, it's Alex Smith until he starts losing more consistently. It will be an "open competition" in camp, but it will be Smith to open the season. If the season is going great, he'll continue. If not, they'll get Mahomes in there as Smith will be a free agent in 2019.
Chargers: It's still Rivers and I'm bored with it.
Raiders: Carr got the money. They aren't changing anything here anytime soon.
Broncos: I'll stick Josh Allen here. The kid is 6'5". Something tells me Elway will go for the biggest kid of the top names. I assume it's why he likes the 6'7" Osweiler...

NFC East
Eagles: Obviously Wentz. Some of his luck runs out and he throws a deal more picks...but is still effective.
Cowboys: Obviously Dak
Redskins: They'll find a way to keep Cousins around, simply because Garoppolo stole his destination.
Giants: They'll make another bonehead decision (like when they benched Eli) and grab the overrated Sam Darnold. Eli will start for much of the year. It will be like the Smith Mahomes situation we are seeing.

NFC North
Vikings: There will be an open competition between Keenum and Bridgewater. Bridgewater will win the competition, and his non-flashy play style will generate nonstop questions throughout the season as to who should be starting.
Packers: Flipping Aaron Rodgers, everyone, ok? Stupid Packers
Lions: Stafford, no question
Bears: Trubisky is clearly the future here

NFC South
Saints: Brees for sure
Panthers: Cam for sure
Falcons: Ryan for sure
Buccaneers: Winston for sure, but people stop believing in him. Wow what a boring division to speculate about

NFC West
Rams: Goff is the man here for a while, but he'll come back down to earth. McVay really helps and will keep things operating well.
Seahawks: Wilson for sure. They won't invest much in a bad OL, because they recognize Wilson isn't phenomenal from the pocket anyways. He's actually a better passer while on the run. The fans will all pull their hair out when no OL are drafted.
49ers: I think Garoppolo does enough this year for them to stick with him, but I also think they draft a decent QB for insurance. Drew Lock maybe.
Cardinals: Palmer starts. They draft his replacement rather high. Lamar Jackson.

Postby ArrylT » Fri Dec 08, 2017 10:36 pm

Part wild speculation part logic part what if

AFC East

Patriots: Brady / Hoyer backup for rest of career and they'll draft a QB in 18/19 in 2-3-4th round to use as trade asset. Finally scroll to bottom.

Dolphins: Release Tannehill for cap reasons, Cutler/Moore for 2018 while grooming QB they draft in 1st round to be Gases real guy.

Bills: No idea - dont care - they havent had a reliable QB since Jim Kelly. So yeah they trade for Chad Kelly from Denver (if Denver drafts another 1st round QB).

Jets: Because their management likes to play chicken, they'll do what they did to Fitzpatrick to Josh McCown who eventually signs for 10 million to be a bridge QB like Fitzpatrick was supposed to be while they continue to screw up the development of whatever QBs they draft like Petty, Hackenberg etc.

AFC North

Steelers: Big Ben does what Brett Favre does and sticks around for an awkward last season or 2 while Steelers fans fall in love with Josh Dobbs and start calling him Aaron Dobgers.

Ravens: What Valhalla said.

Bengals: What Valhalla said.

Browns: The firing of Sashi Brown cancels the plan to get McCarron in FA and they draft a QB in the 1st as everyone wants them to and he becomes the next QB to join the never ending QB carousel. They also sign Colin Kaepernick (because someone has to).

AFC South

Titans: Mariota.

Jaguars: Because the Jags make the playoffs they decide to keep Bortles around.

Colts: Luck misses another season (and gets traded) Jacoby Brissett becomes an All Pro QB who leads the Colts to a division title.

Texans: Watson but like previous Texans QBs he gets injured a lot (like Schaub did) and Savage gets plenty of starts that drive Texans fans mad.

AFC West

Chiefs: What Valhalla said

Chargers: Rivers has been making very subtle hints at retiring (see that comment about NOT playing til 45) and announces 2018 is his last year and being who he is the Chargers have plenty of time to draft their replacement.'

Raiders: Carr baby!

Broncos: Chad Kelly unless they draft a QB in the first, at which he gets traded to the Bills to end their QB "curse"

NFC East

Eagles: Wentz

Cowboys: Romo unretires, the Cowboys sign him and they go the the playoffs where he gets injured and Dak takes over.

Redskins: Cousins has a brain and leaves. The Redskins sign Geno Smith

Giants: In revenge for being humiliated Eli goes postal worker on the Giants - forever smirching the Manning name as all people can think about from 2019 forward is how Eli Manning tosses a football into the locker room and its actually a grenade which blows up the Giants entire team. However Manning never serves a moment in jail as Trump (a Redskins fan) immediately pardons Manning. This causes the Giants fold after the 2018 season and a new team in London England takes their place called the London Wankers. While millions of fans grieve for the loss of life, secretly everyone is happy because the NYG Fans are the most smug and unlikeable of NFL fans. ;)

NFC North

Vikings: Bradford wins the starter position and Bridgewater takes over after he gets injured again.

Packers: ARod of course.

Lions: Stafford, no question

Bears: Trubisky is clearly the not future here and the Bears after firing Fox and cleaning house, sign Case Keenum and reunite him with Jeff Fisher in what becomes the worst NFL signing ever as the Bears go 0-32 in 18 & 19.

NFC South

Saints: After the Saints win the 2017 Super Bowl Brees plays for one more season while mentoring Paytons (this 2nd Championship allows Payton to stay as long as he likes ala Coughlin should have) QB of the Future Taysom Hill who becomes (by 2030) the 5th best QB ever.

Panthers: Cam Newton

Falcons: Matt Ryan

Buccaneers: Winston in a stunning turn decides to retire, and marries the Uber Driver who originally accused him of sexual harassment. They move to Papau New Guinea to become Missionaries. The Buccaneers draft both Darnold and Rosen.

NFC West

Rams: Jared Goff

Seahawks: Russell Wilson

49ers: Garappolo

Cardinals: Palmer starts Blaine Gabbert takes over and becomes Arians version of Steve Young.

SURPISE: Part of the Brissett deal was that if the Colts ever decide to trade Luck, the Patriots get first dibs on a deal, and they trade Luck to the Patriots at the end of the 2018 season where he agrees to sit under Brady as a backup for 2 more seasons. After which Brady retires - reveals he is actually a ROBOT from another planet sent to promote peace, but due to an accident his mission parameters changed to becoming the best QB ever. He then takes over as Trumps VP late in the 2020 election, Trump wins, dies of a heart attack and Robo-Brady becomes president of the USA. Andrew Luck then leads the Patriots to 7 straight Super Bowl victories and Patriots fans are quick to forgive they ever believed in a Robot QB while still being proud he is now their president.

Patriots: Brady plays another season. Pats draft two mid-round backups who fantasy fans immediately jump all over. Patriots trade both of them before the end of the season.
Bills: Buffalo trades up for rookie Josh Rosen. They start the season with Nathan Peterman who is benched during week 1.
Dolphins: Tannehill plays poorly, is benched mid-season for new backup AJ McCarron.
Jets: The Jets don't draft a QB. They intend to start Josh McCown until he is injured in the preseason. Bryce Petty gets them to the playoffs.

Steelers: Roethlisberger returns after a heartbreaking Super Bowl defeat to the Vikings
Bengals: Andy Dalton starts. Bengals put a 1st round tender on A.J. McCarron, which is picked up by Miami.
Ravens: Joe Flacco starts despite a brief QB controversy in the preseason with new (and old) backup Tyrod Taylor.
Browns: The Browns use their 1st overall draft pick on Sam Darnold.

Raiders: Derek Carr, nothing to see here.
Broncos: Denver drafts Josh Allen. He's not ready to start so they go back and forth between Lynch and Siemian again.
Chiefs: Chiefs miss the playoffs, don't pick up Alex Smith's contract, draft a top WR for Mahomes, and he looks pretty good. Smith ends up as a backup in Houston.
Chargers: 2017 Rivers wins the AFC West and gets his first playoff win since 2013. He will play another year. Chargers use a late 1st to draft Clayton Thorson.

Texans: DeShaun Watson starts 2018 as good as 2017 until DeAndre Hopkins tears his ACL, after which he struggles.
Colts: Andrew Luck is fully healthy and starts all season, leading them to the playoffs. Jacoby Brissett stays despite being the subject of trade rumors.
Titans: Marcus Mariota struggles to connect with Corey Davis and has the worst season of his career.
Jaguars: Jaguars sign Kirk Cousins to a 6 year, $140 millon contract and cut Blake Bortles. They go on to win the Super Bowl.

Cowboys: Dak Prescott takes a step back and the Cowboys struggle to a 3-13 record with Ezekiel Elliott suspended again.
Eagles: Carson Wentz is injured in the preseason. Backup QB Nick Foles leads the team to a 13-3 record.
Redskins: Redskins let Kirk Cousins go in free agency, start Colt McCoy. His stats are good enough that he isn't blamed for their disastrous season.
Giants: Eli Manning retires. Giants draft rookie QB Lamar Jackson. Jackson holds out, refusing to play for the Giants. Blake Bortles starts and looks amazing.

Packers: Aaron Rodgers is back, but he struggles. Retires after 2018.
Vikings: Vikings win 2017 Super Bowl with QB Case Keenum. Sign both Keenum and Bridgewater to 1 year deals. Keenum starts all season.
Bears: Trubisky plays horribly, as the Bears fail to get him any viable receivers. His job is in question going into 2018.
Lions: With an improved running game Stafford suddenly looks elite, is in the running for league MVP.

Seahawks: Russell Wilson hurts his knee but continues to play as a pocket passer. Plays well but leads the league in sacks due to horrible O-line.
Rams: Goff looks great but the offense stalls because of a lack of receiving talent. Watkins and Kupp suck and Woods is hurt.
49ers: Jimmy Garoppolo is a disasater. 49ers sign Colin Kaepernick mid-season and he is also terrible.
Cardinals: Carson Palmer attempts a comeback but gets injured again, leaving the Cardinals up a creek. They try to trade for Bridgewater but end up starting Blaine Gabbert.

Saints: Drew Brees looks old but holds on in a game-manager role with the Saints leading the league in rushing.
Falcons: Matt Ryan's decline continues but he starts all season.
Panthers: Cam Newton has 1000 rushing yards in an otherwise disastrous season for the Panthers offense.
Bucs: Jameis Winston implodes, end the season starting a late-round rookie Deondre Francois who shows promise.

I feel good about that prediction I made last year.
DEN opted for Keenum, whatever...
NYG stuck with Eli, stupid...
I thought Arizona was sticking with... I don't know what I was thinking lol
Didnt see Baltimore snagging a QB (fan here) but I'm glad they were proactive about it... instead of ending up like DEN, NYG

As someone in a SF who just scooped Nick Foles off our last waivers, I'm excited to play the 2019 version of this game.
10 team .5 PPR SF

QB - Mahomes, Jackson, Hurts, Zach Wilson
RB - Saquon, Chubb, AJD, Dobbins, Penny, Gio, T. Jones
WR - Hill, AJB, Diggs, Sutton, Jeudy, Bateman, Watkins, Slayton, Callaway
TE - Goedert, Pitts, OJH, Cook
Taxi - Mims, D. Brown, Jacob Harris
