In our first season, we made the 4 teams play it out for the #1 pick. The winner was the better of the teams and the worst team ended up with 1.04 I think. That didnt really seem fair to us as the good team would be getting a lot better... We changed draft order to the order of the standings to make it more fair year to year

potential points is most fair imo. there are arguments for any "order scenario", but playing for the 1.1 is my least favorite and i think is b.s. if you dont own your pick....you have nothing to play for, and all you have to do is say "why do i care to make his team better, by winning games"?
i would use potential point then your standings. playing for the pick has no place in our game imo. it sounds fun and legit when all the teams own their pick....but the reality is, it isnt often that all owners own their own picks.

Potential points dictates our top 4 picks and a toilet bowl tourney among the bottom six records awards the 1.13 rookie pick.

We seed the bottom 6 teams into a toilet bowl and they duke it out for the 1.01. After that, 1.02-1.06 are decided by final standings with points being the tie-breaker. For 1.07-1.12 we use final standings once playoffs are done.

We the 1.13 pick so to speak in my two Qb league and I love it. I’d suggest it for all my leagues.

I would advocate a draft lottery or potential points to choose the top 4 spots. If you want to reward the consolation bracket do it with FAAB $ or supplemental 2nd or something. Keep in mind that your way wouldn't effect someone who traded their 1st away already.

its the end of the first year for our dynasty as well, we are just doing the draft in reverse order of standings for any team outside the playoffs

My one league is in year 3. So far, we have used, places 7-12 get picks 1-6 in reverse order. Ensuring the bottom teams get the top picks.
It appears to be working, and no complaints so far.
I like the idea of compensatory 1sts though, that may be something to add, as our bottom 2 teams have traded away their firsts two years in a row, losing on 1.01 and 1.02 in 17&18... So they are a few years behind.
