How would this 3-team tie be broken?
How would this 3-team tie be broken?
We are heading into the final week and I am trying to figure out if I have a chance for my division.
Team 1: 6-6; div: 5-3; pts scored: 928
Team 2: 6-6; div: 5-3; pts scored: 1020
Team 3: 5-7; div: 4-4; pts scored: 1007
If team 3 wins this week and teams 1 & 2 lose, plus team 3 is the highest scoring team. Who wins division?
League rule: Ties in the standings are resolved in this order: Winning Percentage, Head to Head Record, Division Record, Total Points, Points Against (Schedule Difficulty).
My question is if team 1 & 2 are tied up to division record, is team 3 included in the tie breaker when it goes to points scored or do they drop out?

Re: How would this 3-team tie be broken?
Assuming the final week is a divisional game for all three teams:
If Team 3 wins and Teams 1 and 2 lose, then all teams will be 6-7 overall and 5-4 division. Tie breaker goes to overall points.
If Team 3 wins and Teams 1 and 2 lose, then all teams will be 6-7 overall and 5-4 division. Tie breaker goes to overall points.
Re: How would this 3-team tie be broken?
Do all teams have same division record? If so, then yes they would all go to points scored. If team 3 has a worse division record, they would be eliminated on that tie breaker as it comes before points scored
Re: How would this 3-team tie be broken?
Team 3 would remain 4-4 in division, other two teams are 5-3

Re: How would this 3-team tie be broken?
What is the overall h2h record between the 3 teams? That is the tiebreaker before division record.
So (assuming you are team 3) you can only win your division if you have the best h2h record of the 3 teams.
If it goes to division record, you would be eliminated based on having a worse division record, then the remaining tied teams would go to total points.

Team 3's H2H record against both teams is 3-1, other teams are 2-2.
I didn't realize with H2H you would look at all four games.

Re: How would this 3-team tie be broken?
Then my understanding is that team 3 would win the division based on the 1st tiebreaker. At least, that is how my long-term league has always operated, and we have the same exact tiebreaker order.

Re: How would this 3-team tie be broken?
It is a headache, and I only play in new leagues that do total points as the first tiebreaker (it is pretty easily the fairest method of tiebreaking). But I am in a league that is 18 years old with all friends, and it definitely makes for more fun finishes to have H2H and division results higher than points scored. I also enjoy breaking down the tiebreak situation in that league around week 11 or 12.

Re: How would this 3-team tie be broken?
Also, we decided to use overall record of H2H for tied teams rather than look at each teams H2H tiebreak individually because that is how the NFL does it.

Re: How would this 3-team tie be broken?
Another reason to get rid of divisions and have one conference.

Agree 100%. Did this last year and it's been much smoother.

X3
Divisions make things unnecessarily complicated and increase the likelihood that a crappy team sneaks into the playoffs ahead of a better team. Just play a balanced schedule against everyone.
Both are 12-team 1QB PPR dynasties

Re: How would this 3-team tie be broken?
Smoother? Fairer even? Sure. But there's something to be said of division rivalries making it fun when you're all local, and H2H matchups making each week more important or more heartbreaking
To TS, mash all the teams with the same record and see their record vs each other since H2H is your first tie breaker. If tied there, then eliminate lowest team by the next tie breaker (divisional) and look at H2H again and see if its changed the outcome
We can potentially have 4 teams with the same record to determine 3-6 seeding. I'm an engineer, and comissoner has already informed that if that happens, I have to figure it out because its too much math for him lol

Re: How would this 3-team tie be broken?
In any leagues I've been in that include division record, that tie breaker is used only if all teams involved are in the same division. If they are from different divisions then it is meaningless. *The same goes for H2H record when involving more than 2 teams.
If you can't leave at least a 20% tip, you can't afford to eat out.
