Olsen retiring 'early' could have an impact on Gronk's thinking as well. I think this is going to become much more of a trend. Will be interesting to track.

Yeah, although I don't see Gronk getting a booth job. It still might be a better hire than Dennis Miller, though.

lol definitely not a booth job. Would agree it would be more entertaining than Miller though. Lol. But guys with viable second careers I think will start retiring much sooner than we are used to seeing.

Per Ian Rapport:
"TE Greg Olsen is auditioning for and ESPN broadcast job today, as @AndrewMarchand said… but sources say he has committed to play for Carolina for 2018 and beyond. This is about life after football, not next year."

Seems kind of weird that someone would audition for a job they'll take "after football". I remember Olsen doing very well as an analyst at the combine last year. If Rex Ryan can get a gig at ESPN, Olsen doesn't have to do his homework years before it's due.

I feel like more players are looking to head out in the peak of their careers to avoid injuries/concussions. There comes a point where it's just not worth it anymore.
This^^^ Like some others have said, Olsen did a game last season and was really good at it so I won’t be surprised if he gets this job and hangs it up. I don’t blame him, he’s had a great career and could get out before he piles up too many injuries.

Yea, not buying the "interviewing for the future" angle. If the job is offered it will be for this year and make for a tough decision. Thought Olsen was really good in the game he called.

I hope he gets the job. I'll really miss him on my roster, but speaking for the sake of their brain health, more players should be immediately choosing retirement as soon as they hit their 30s. And, obviously, most can't immediately segue into a TV analyst job, so Olsen is fortunate to be considered for such, and I think he should do his best to seize the opportunity.

Who the hell "interviews for the future"?
That just seems like a silly claim.

lol exactly. Damage control is all it is in hopes it works out. If offered, I think he hangs up the cleats.

ESPN-"Great job Greg! We'll keep in touch."
Greg Olson--"Does that mean I don't get the job?"
ESPN--"No, it means we'll call you in the next few years."
Greg Olson--"AWESOME!"

This kind of reminds me when Brandon Marshall said he was going to retire after last year (or something like that) and I feel like maybe he mentally checked out and he played terribly. It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

I gotta hang onto him, but this is a sore loss for what I traded for him if he goes off and becomes and analyst. Breida and Burk right as they were starting to perform. Damn!
