Cheap veteran RB options for 2018 with upside

Postby SkinZ187 » Tue Nov 21, 2017 11:01 am

I would like to start this thread to discuss “discounted” RB options for 2018 that have some upside. I’m not one that like to invest 1st round picks into the RB position, and just would like to discuss some potential RB’s to buy low right now. The 2 that I’m currently pondering are C.J. Anderson and Isaiah Crowell.

I think CJA gets released. Is he a pretty solid RB that was just in a bad situation with the putrid QB play in Denver this year? Or is he just bad?

Isaiah Crowell. Does he resign in cleveland next year? Does he have some juice If he lands in a better situation?

If you have some feedback on these 2 RB’s, please share. If you have some others to discuss that would be good buy low options, please add them to the conversation.

For the sake of this conversation, the rest of the 2017 season outlook for these RB’s should be considered irrelevant.

I think Woodhead would be someone that could be had cheap and could put up top 10 numbers for the next couple seasons or he could get hurt and miss another seasons. He is cheap though.

Thomas Jones, Cedric Benson, Marshawn Lynch,....... Jeremy Hill?

Hill has good pedigree, a short run of success in the NFL, and will be on a new team next year. Very similar to those first 3 guys that found success in their 2nd home.

Doug Martin should be super cheap, as I can't give him away where I own him. Maybe s change of scenery will help.

CJ is nailed on to go to Miami right? He nearly signed with them last year before the Broncos matched the offer. Whether Miami is a good spot for him is another matter!

what about Mike Gillislee? productive in Buffalo, but not a fit for the Pats as he just advertises it's a run play in their scheme - could be in a better fit next season, and can definitely be had for cheap

That's the only reason I'm holding him (and also I thought I was "buying low" in Week 5/6 when I traded to get him..Little did I know). I just can't imagine he's back next year in NE. He's young enough and performed well before coming to NE. He'll get a chance elsewhere.

Decent buy low's for next year-Hill, D. Martin, Gillislee, McKinnon...Maybe even Lacy...I just don't think he's anywhere near as bad as he seems in Seattle. People expect too much from him. A few carries a game, no rhythm, confidence is shot, and the o-line sucks...I'd love to see him back in GB personally.

Collins might be a guy that is really cheap and may be showing enough to get a serious look next year.
I like the Jeremy Hill thought too...other than that not much really out there.

What's your take? I own him for a relatively steep price (near $20 I believe) and severely overbid at our startup draft a few years ago. The way it's looking I'm going to have to cut him this offseason, I can't get anyone to give me a bag of peanuts for him. Smh.

Guess no one thinks Jamaal Charles, another year removed for his injury, can be productive next year? He has looked ok (in the limited Dever games I have seen) this year.

This is a tough question to answer and really depends on your league. Most of the guys mentioned have lost value this year, so if their current owner acquired them somewhat recently, they’re probably gonna be hesitant to flip them for a loss. For example, this past offseason, a lot of people were high on Crow and thought he was worth a mid 1st. If you paid that for him, you’re probably more inclined to wait it out than sell low. In contrast, I personally acquired Crow prior to the 2016 season as a throw-in, so if someone came to me with a late 1st or early 2nd right now, I’d probably be happy to take the pick and move on with my life.
Both are 12-team 1QB PPR dynasties
