zelldawg26 wrote: Fri Nov 17, 2017 10:01 am Mack is a tough one to predict. I feel like when they do give him opportunity to start carrying the load, he doesn't perform as well as he should. Gore is still outperforming him with just over as many touches and that's not good. I do think that Gore will be finally finally done after this year and if not, a major regression is on the way, however it's still a few weeks early to predict if Mack really is the future back for the Colts. It's a 50/50 lottery ticket that could be a winner or could see a small sustainable floor as he has been doing all year. I would trade for him and chance it being the amount of talent at the TE position. But no he is not worth Engram or Hunter right now. The others yes.
I was looking at the same stat and initially refused, as he wanted Hunter. He countered by adding James Connor. The possibility of either Mack, Connor blowing up, or hitting with that second rounder, is worth the risk for Hunter Henry imo. Hopefully it's a good one?

the thread should likely go to team advice....but in terms of mack

it reallly comes down to how he adjust to the speed of the game. i can see some potential here. huge big play upside......

the deal to be had here was njoku for mack and 2nd....

Totally see it, and I'm normally with you, but I couldn't resist as he added some more value on a player I've been high on before he even played college ball, James Conner.

Primarily because I have a good shot at getting J. Landry with the 2.01 I acquired along with my 2.08-10 pick.

So, I got M. Mack, J. Conner, 2.01 and I gave H. Henry.

I may very well regret this, but luckily won't be screwed at TE if I do. The risk on all 3 assets, imo, is worth the gamble.

Hey guys, any chance Mack is the starter in Indy? They haven’t brought anyone in yet, I know Barkley is a possibility at 3, but FA RB’s are starting to sign everywhere else...Do the Colts believe he can be the every down back?

He’s not an every down back and severely disappointed whatever opportunity he had last year. Weather it’s a first rounder (unlikely with their needs) or a 2nd or 3rd, I think they draft someone. Keep in mind two of the top rookie backs this past year were 3rd round picks. He’s better served in the pass catching role. I really don’t see any chance he’s the 3 down back there. Time share is his best outcome.

This ^^^

Mack is not likely to be the starter in my opinion. And, I expect that the starter is not yet on the roster. If I had to bet, I'd bet that a rookie drafted in the first 3 rounds will be the most productive RB in Indy this season.

I'd like Doug Martin in Indy...

but yea, agree with the consensus- they're adding someone to that backfield. Mack is clearly not the answer

I'm not as pessimistic as everyone else.

Last year was very up & down for Mack. He made some big plays, flashed some serious ability, but also made too many mistakes (fumbles, drops). But the Colts were clearly committed to Gore, they weren't going to bench him even in a rebuilding season.

The Colts have shown some interest in Free Agent class, but it looks like they're going to come away with nothing more than a Tier 2 or 3 veteran. I'm sure they'll also draft a RB in the 2 - 4 rounds (can't see them taking Barkley with all of their team needs), but that RB will likely face a similar learning curve that Mack went through last year. If that backfield comes down to Mack, and say, a 3rd round pick - I like Mack's chances.

I think he is a buy candidate as well. Partly because Gore looked so slow last year, but he looked great everytime he touched the field. Pass blocking and fumbling needs to be improved. My guess is we draft a RB in round 3-4 to pair with Mack and go with hot hand.
I am just a guy sharing some thoughts
