Jamaal Williams - outlook for rest of the year

Postby jman3134 » Thu Oct 19, 2017 12:37 am

What is his outlook for the rest of the year? Does he have any value remaining?

I know Montgomery/Jones is the combination they are going with, but he is available in my league and I am curious if he has any value remaining.

He's worth throwing on the end of your bench, sure.

Meh. Hasn't looked the part. I'd rather gamble on Devante Mays if I'm going that deep at Packers RBs.

Williams is scraping the barrel, but Mays is non-existent. He's only been active 3 of 6 games and hasn't even gotten a single snap with the offense, much less a touch.

Williams could matter again if TyMont or Jones misses time (TyMont has sickle-cell trait, by the way), and it's logical to presume the Packers are about to become a team that runs the ball 30 times a week the rest of the year, with Rodgers out. Williams was the first RB Green Bay took in the draft, so they probably haven't given up on him already.

He's not on the wire in my league (his poor owner took him 1.12, oy vey), but if he were, I wouldn't hesitate to add him.

It's Gallman easy, imo. I thought Gallman looked pretty good against TB and then last week Darkwa played so well that Gallman didn't get many touches but overall, Williams hasn't shown much and Gallman has at least showed some promise.

Williams vs Gallman sure has lots of parallels.

Gallman

- Darkwa is better than him, and Vereen will always take away some snaps when he's healthy
- but Gallman is better than Perkins
- and there are indicators Darkwa is injury prone
- Giants are gonna run the ball 30 times a week now with all their WR injuries fer shur

Williams

- Jones is better than him, and so is TyMont (more for his receiving than running, ofc)
- but Williams is only ten carries into his career, so that might well be a premature assessment
- and there are indicators TyMont is injury prone
- Packers are also probably gonna run the ball a lot more now with Rodgers out

It's close, but I'd prefer Williams simply because I think he was a much better college player than Gallman.

He got some playing time late and a garbage time TD. Any chance he can gain some ground in GB or is it too premature? Or does it look like Ty will get his role back?

None of his garbage time play endeared him any more to his coaches. It's not like it HURTS him, but why would 3-4 meaningless plays spark anything? And I'm not of the opinion that Jones played badly enough to lose his job

Not sure what it might mean for him, which is why I asked. As of right now, if Jones lost his job, it would go to Ty.

But, in order to gain some ground (move to #2 in depth chart), he would have to prove he is substantially better in pass protection, which is what would keep Jones off the field. More than likely, Jones gets more chances given his play in prior weeks.

Ty may have worked himself back into a split with Jones, but Williams is still a short-yardage guy at best imo. It's hard to build on that role. He would probably need both Jones and Ty to struggle for a bit or an injury to expand his role much.

That's actually incorrect, it's no secret that JW is far superior in pass protection than the other two and I think McCarthy had enough last night after Jones gave up a sack and a few pressures.

I'm not saying that last night cemented anything, but McCarthy made the swap for a reason and JW came in and made the best of it.

66 Rush yards, 4 receptions for 60 yards, 2 TD's vs. the Steelers, 29.5 points in PPR. Averaging 20+ touches the past 3 weeks. Granted Ty Montgomery is hurt as well as Aaron Jones, but Jamaal looked pretty good last night.

I am so upset I let this guy go when I needed a bye week kicker. I knew he had more potential than most were giving him credit for, but now he looks like the potential lead back next year. Jones' off the field issues won't help.
