Wondering what the break up of leagues award $$ is. We work with % because our league the buy in goes up $10 every year, to discourage the "just win now" mentality (next year is always a bigger pot)

17.5% of pot goes to weekly highscore
5% to player with most points against
5% to regular season champ
5% to an eliminator winner (lowest score eliminate each week until 1 left)
Trophy Plaque budget: $30
1st Place: 65% of remaining budget + all fines
2nd Place: 25% of remaining budget
3rd Place: 10% of remaining budget

With $20 buy in currently, its $2.50 per highscore, $10 for the 3 awards, $30 plaque, $68 1st place, $26 2nd and $10 for 3rd

We just do 65% 1st, 25% 2nd, 10% 3rd

I like the idea of weekly high score, or mini pots for total points scored, best record and those sorts of things. Guess it depends on how diversified the league wants winnings to be.

We have a 10 team league with $40 buy in

$5 for the weekly high score makes things fun

3rd place gets their $40 back, 2nd gets $80. 1st gets the remaining (I think 200 but too lazy to do math)

We've floated an idea of 1st place paying each player that scored better than them in the Week 16 championship $5 from their winnings for a little joke

With your league I think its fun to have the extra mini pots, but then 1st through 3rd don't win much at all (3rd doesn't even get their money back) but that's completely up to the league and their personalities and if they find the extra stuff more fun and entertaining than just chasing and being rewarded for Gold or not

We eliminated the 3rd place payout this year and reduced the 2nd place payout in order to better reward best regular season record and most regular season points. If you subscribe to the notion that fantasy football is a game of skill, it takes a lot more skill to have a great regular season over 11-13 weeks than it does to finish 2nd or 3rd in a fluky, single-elimination tournament. Here’s how we break it down:

$150 x 12 teams = $1800 prize pool

$1000 for league champ
$200 for runner-up
$200 for best reg. season record
$200 for most reg. season points

The remaining $200 is used to pay for MFL ($70) and then the remaining $130 goes into an “empire fund” for the first team to win back-to-back championships. We also allow owners the option to purchase a 2nd IR slot ($10 before the start of the season, $20 after) and/or a second taxi squad slot ($10 before the rookie draft, $20 after). Those funds also go into the empire fund. We also deposit all league funds into an interest-bearing savings account during the season, so any interest accrued also rolls into the empire fund.

Edit: I should also add that since we eliminated the 3rd place payout, we also eliminated the 3rd place game. The champion and runner-up receive the 12th and 11th picks respectively in the following draft, but everyone else’s draft order is based on their regular season finish.

I try to make it so a good 25-33% of the owners can at least win their money back. It helps keep more people invested in the league a little longer.

In my 96 team league, there is a 16-team playoff, but also a max $75 payout for all teams who can win at least 8 games and don't make the playoffs. I believe 30 teams (of 96) walked away with a profit, first place taking $1,100.
