I got Williams in round 10 of a startup.

Hope he turns into AJ Green 2.0, I panicked in round 3 and 4 and grabbed a couple of 5th round RBs because they were flying off the shelves. There were some really good WRs still on the table.

My draft over the weekend resulted in Golladay and Zay Jones being drafted before Williams.

They say he can't burst to seperate.....maybe I'm wrong, but how is he going to make those close quarters catches....he did it in college, but nfl cvs are faster...im thinking picks....or non targets
I hope I'm wrong.....you guys actually gave me hope considering I got him at pick 3.01 in my rookie draft...

What concerns me most about Mike Williams:

- his route-craft (it isn't very good)
- most of the player comparisons people make to him based on 'how he wins' had significantly better workout scores
- First a neck-injury that ended one of his collegiate seasons, now a herniated disk in his back... I don't like all these injuries associated with his spine. Is he one bad hit from forced retirement? I don't want to overreact, but we've seen the beginning of this story before.

These concerns forced me to drop him to the fourth WR on my personal board for this year's rookies.

This is going to be a great thread to dredge up in a few years. Either people will be amazed at the value for where they got him or we missed the mark on him as a WR prospect. If he doesn't pan out I know I will be even more wary of big # college WR's who don't have the workout metrics to back it up. Yes I know he didn't have amazing college production, but he did break out early and was highly touted even at his Sophomore year.

Strange considering you love the comparisons when it comes to Cooper Kupp. Williams passes the Football IQ test and had no issues against a secondary that had roughly 3 first round picks in the national championship game. He also not only returned from his neck injury he returned to great form quickly, so that's in the past. Soft tissue injuries are a bigger concern for re-injury.

DRAFT ANALYSIS:
"Mike Williams is all about separating with length, power and catch radius. He's a dominating, physical presence. He's a back-shoulder guy. You'll love him in the red zone." -- Mike Mayock

Most professional scouts compare him to Mike Evans who similarly was labeled unable to separate, poor burst, and focus drops. Their combine SWOTs were very similar

To me the bigger concern here is injury history. Herniated discs can be a big deal and career enders... only 72% of lower disc injured players return to full form and only 65% of higher disc.

I just stole him at the end of the 2nd rd, so I'll gladly take the risk and hold him until we know what he is. He's got the most upside of any WR in this draft IMO, and that includes C.Davis.

mike williams healthy before john ross

Postby BigBawseRoss » Tue Oct 17, 2017 9:55 am

who would have thought that john ross would have a harder time gettin healthy than mike williams... thats all anyone talked about at FF draft time was that williams is the better prospect but might miss half the season.

Ross got one carry no targets and lost a fumble and has been hurt ever since.

these 2 better have a better career than kevin white and breshad perriman LOL so far they are on track to align perfectly with them

Too early to jump to the Kevin White and Breshad Perriman level. But.... yeah, frustrating start. Remind yourself that it is dynasty and just try to be patient and think big picture. I'll admit - It's tough to do mid season when byes start and injuries are piling up.

I would have thought so, Ross doesn't quite have the stature to stay healthy. I see him as a poor mans deshawn Jackson in the NFL and I'm a huskies fan. His potential is great but light and fast WRs tend to get cracked more easily

He's also about the same size as OBJ who missed his first four games with injury and took a couple games to get going after that. Worked out fine for him. Ross probably won't be OBJ, but he's far from the write off that White/Perriman etc have become.

Yeah, big WRs like Kevin White and Mike Williams hold up to the hits much better. /s

Ross didn't get cracked, he sprained a knee in training camp and reinjured it in practice. That doesn't have much to do with his size, AKAIK.
Dynasty player since 2002.
I probably should have done something more productive with that time...
