Is this collusion?

Postby Ray Finkle » Mon Oct 16, 2017 6:21 am

This is a scenario that hasn’t happened but I was just wondering. So in a league that uses waivers in between weeks, let’s say...

Team X has 12th priority. He tells team Y with 2nd priority that if he claims a particular player then he will trade them whatever for that player.

Is that collusion?

Typically if I second guess myself in a moral dilemma, I already know the answer. This scenario doesn’t seem all that greasy to me though.

I don't think this is collusion.

that's not collusion at all. It's a trade, team X is trading something to team Y for a player they can acquire.

Doesn't sound like collusion. Any team could make a better offer to team Y.

That's a trade pending he obtains the player. There's nothing wrong with that.

True. The idea of one team advising another team and their high priority to claim a player they might not otherwise claim just gave me some pause.

Ultimately he's trading for the waiver slot.. Not collusion in my opinion

In some of the leagues I'm in teams with high waiver priorities will advertise them to see if someone will trade for a player they can pick. As long as there is no attempt to "game" the system there's no reason a team with a high waiver priority can't see if there's a player someone wants that they can claim and trade to that team

Nothing wrong with it as long as it's straightforward I'll give you "y" if you pick up "x". I think more teams should aggressively be doing this.

I've used it both ways putting my #1 waiver on the block to add draft picks or youth when I was rebuilding and buying the #1 waiver when I was contending. When you have waivers by inverse order, sometimes you have to get creative to get that FA you think will complete your team.

Doesn't seem like collusion at all. Also, are you able to trade your waiver/claim?

I don't see it as collusion, actually that's a fairly common conversation for people who want guys and know they won't get them. To me it's proper use of Waiver assets, grabbing guys that were once useless and making a profit.

Not at all, that's trading for the waiver spot. I actually have that listed right in the constitution of my league. I've done it many times before and have advertised the top waiver spot when I had it.
