I've always enjoyed owning Duke as a depth piece, injury-bye week fill in for PPR. I'm not sure he can keep up his current production, he only had 2 catches last game before his touchdown play late in the 4th.

I took advantage of his current streak and sold him + Dez + 2nd for Baldwin and early 2018 first.

Duke Johnson Talk

Postby Coobelz » Sun Nov 19, 2017 3:38 pm

I posted this last year but am going to post it again. Why does he not get more carries ? Crowell has been better the last few games, but Duke is averaging over 5 ypc AGAIN this year. Can Any browns fan or someone who actually watches the browns regularly (god help you) please explain this to me.

I’m a huge cane fan and a Duke owner so there’s a bias but regardless I just don’t get it.

I've been thinking the same thing for weeks. The guy has 5 touches and 60-70 yards and half the time a TD, what would he do with 12 touches....or 15 touches. We may never know. That whole management team, including Hue is a JOKE! It all has to do with play calling IMO.

I've been a Browns fan since I was very young...lets just say 30+ years. Since they were given the expansion team...it has seemed that they just never stick with a coaching staff or management long enough to get any thing going. I always thought that was the problem. But no, it Haslam and his poor judgment of mangers and coaches. So it is not going to change anytime soon. Unless they get extremely lucky and attract a very young innovative coach (like McVey). otherwise they will continue down the road of RETREADS.

As a Crowell owner, I don't understand why Duke is not more involved.

Hue Jackson does not believe in Duke as a between the tackles runner.

one simple explanation is the coaching staff simply does not believe Duke's body can stand up to the workload. similar to the view on Gio. plus, smaller sample sizes, like Duke's small number of runs, do not always extrapolate with higher volume. as a long time Duke advocate though, I'd love to see him get his chance.

I'm still not sold on the Browns bringing back Crow next year, so perhaps 2018 will be the year they actually utilize Duke a bit more? We can hope at least...

And frankly, I hope they don't give Crowell a new contract. I'd like to see him sign on with a franchise with better talent around him. Selfish, but a win/win for me since I'd no longer own two Cleveland RB's.

Time to Sell Duke?

Postby gausec » Thu Jan 18, 2018 1:19 pm

With Mel Kiper releasing his first Mock he has Cleveland taking Barkley at 4. This has been speculated for a while however I saw someone on Twitter saying he was selling all shares now rather than wait.

As an owner I am holding, he's only 24 and will be a free agent in 2019. He showed potential rushing the ball this year, with the obvious skillset being his pass catching ability. However, I thought this would be a good topic to debate.

Fellow fantasy players, what is your opinion of Duke's situation?

If you're in a league with the idiots from Dynasty Nerds? Yes, sell. He's not a "dynasty RB1"

He's a good player, and absolutely will be usable for awhile I think. But good luck predicting which games he will catch 8-9 balls, and which ones he won't.

x2 I don't see anyone paying more than a late 2nd at most for Duke.

I think Barkley ends up in Indianapolis at 3rd overall so Duke Johnson probably keeps the same role as this past season.

Some recent Duke Johnson trades according to DLF trade finder:

Duke Johnson and L. Murray for Andrew Luck

Duke Johnson for 2018 1st*

Duke Johnson and 2018 2nd for Jordan Reed and 2018 2nd

Duke Johnson and TJ Yeldon for Ginn, Darboh and 2018 1st

* - looks to be a Superflex league
Please speak to clarion contrarion before considering the use of vetos..

This is why he's a "hold" for me. A late 2nd isn't enticing, and Duke has shown he can play but doesn't get enough opportunities in Cleveland. I fully expect him to be playing elsewhere when his rookie deal is up as I can't imagine he'll sign-on for another few years of the same kind of usage he's seen to date.

If I'm wrong, I can likely still get that late 2nd next offseason. If I'm right, he might just appreciate in value.
