Ty Montgomery job security?
Re: Ty Montgomery job security?
He looked quick, smooth and like GB's best back to me. Agree the Vikings will give him more of a test, and an opportunity to show his potential in this offense.

Re: Ty Montgomery job security?
I think this is going to turn into a two-headed backfield. They've been hoping to scale back Ty's touches- I see them alternating drives with Ty coming in on more 3rd downs and no-huddle situations.

If you were going to trade Montgomery now, what would you expect to get back?

Re: Ty Montgomery job security?
I think TY will still have value, maybe will perform more as a WR again and also a pass catching back.

Re: Ty Montgomery job security?
While he looked great running the ball, he didn't seem to be too involved in pass protection - which is something that Ty has done quite well in so far. Sadly, I think this is headed for another RBBC situation and Ty is going to lose a lot of production going forward.

When Jones gets dinged up, it will then be Mays that is the chatter of these knee jerk reaction threads.
Ty was never really a rb. Rather, a stop gap athlete put into a roll to fill a hole. J.Williams and either of Jones, Mays will likely form a rbbc for foreseeable future with hot hand receiving majority of carries and game score and flow having major impact as to which it will be.

Re: Ty Montgomery job security?
Montgomery was a solid player, but I definitely didn't see much long-term value. He was far from irreplaceable.
Re: Ty Montgomery job security?
Like I said, Good athlete. Just not a long term answer. Not sure that Jones or Williams is that long term answer either. I think it more likely that each carve out a role and GB has a rbbc in full effect as we get further along into the 2017 season.

Not sure who exactly is "knee jerk" in their reaction. Many of the guys that have commented have favored Jones since the draft and have stated so repeatedly in various threads.JFever wrote: ↑Mon Oct 09, 2017 12:15 pm When Jones gets dinged up, it will then be Mays that is the chatter of these knee jerk reaction threads.

Re: Ty Montgomery job security?
This is what I've noticed. Jamaal Williams is good at pass protection; Jones is not. Not sure on Montgomery, but he must be decent or he wouldn't have been getting so many snaps this season. Pass blocking is huge when Aaron Rodgers is your entire franchise.gopackgo wrote: ↑Mon Oct 09, 2017 11:15 am While he looked great running the ball, he didn't seem to be too involved in pass protection - which is something that Ty has done quite well in so far. I think this will be a RBBC this season, probably into the next. There's a good chance that if any one RB becomes the man in Green Bay, he's not on their roster right now.
Not all that counts can be counted. Not all that can be counted counts.
Re: Ty Montgomery job security?
RBBC looks like to me.
I see Jones as 1 and 2 and Montgomery as 3rd down and 2 minute drill guy.

Re: Ty Montgomery job security?
Echoing what the guys said on the podcast, and going against the general grain of the responses here, if Ty Mont comes back soon and Jones doesn't go insane this week against a good Vikings D...I still see Ty Mont getting the majority of the touches. First off, the Packers will not transition to a heavy run team as long as Arod is there. Second, Jones isn't very good in Pass pro (as most rookies aren't) and Ty Mont is the superior pass catching back. Third, at worst, I see this as a Mark Ingram/Alvin Kamara situation moving forward (Ty Mont being Kamara obviously). In that situation, I still value Ty Mont more than Jones for the foreseeable future. The Packers aren't all of a sudden just going to throw Ty Mont to change of pace/3rd down only role because a rookie came in and lit up a horrible cowboys run defense. Ty Mont's value is certainly down some, but not much in PPR leagues. Maybe more in standard leagues.

Re: Ty Montgomery job security?
He hits the hole harder than Ty and has a much better burst.
Ty should have been sold months ago.
Anyway, I think it'll be close to 50/50 with both being mediocre RB2's. Barring an injury.
