Taxi squads - compelling arguments why they are necessary

The only argument I hear for them is to stash young players. Expanding rosters allow for that.

Imo, there is no place for the taxi. It just restricts owners. Or allows owners to taxi players that should not be there...to prevent them for scoring points for the franchise.

Bench spots allows for stashing rookies, but it doesn't force it to happen. A taxi squad allows for stashing rookies while still keeping veteran talent available on waivers, which more bench spots likely wouldn't do. I personally like the bench to be as large as possible, but most leagues seem to want free agents to have meaning. A taxi squad allows both, in some ways.
