Re: Tannehill

Postby Camperhead » Sat Sep 16, 2017 9:12 pm

We took perhaps an unorthodox route in our 10-team superflex league. We cut rosters from 25 to 15 every mid-August before our 10-round rookie/free agent draft. Looking ahead to our 2018 keeper decisions, I foresaw a situation where we'd be keeping Russell Wilson, some prospect we acquired in the 2017 draft, and EITHER Tannehill or Andy Dalton. That made 2017 a make-or-break year for Tannehill in terms of his future on our roster, and before we reached the keeper deadline, he broke.

So -- after owning him since drafting him 14th overall in 2012 -- we cut bait, threw him back into the pool, figuring at best we've seen all there is to see, and at worst he's finished as a potential starter. We kept Wilson and Dalton, then spent the 8th and 10th picks of the first round on Kizer and Mahomes. Absolutely 100 percent fully content with that move.

Tannehill went unselected in this year's draft, but has since been claimed on waivers.

Ryan Tannehill: Long term value?

Postby kris_kapsner » Mon Oct 16, 2017 1:00 pm

I understand you can get Tannehill on the cheap right now. But, I'm curious as to what people think his long term prospects look like?

For fantasy purposes or real life? In real life, I think he probably gets the starting gig back next year, unless the Dolphins really stink it up and draft one early. For fantasy, he wasn't that good to begin with, so unless it's a 2QB or superflex league, I wouldn't want any part of him.

Pretty much this.

I dealt him to a QB needy team in a true 2 Qb league for a 2018 first.

Right now that pick is sitting as a top 5 pick! 😊

HEs a decent QB in a world where it's hard to find good QBs. I could see him starting for years to come because some teams like SD and CIN like QBs who can help them contend every year even if they don't have a chance to get them over the hump.

Buy him cheap in a Superflex or multiQB league. Not really needed in a 1QB except as a backup and I wouldn't pay more than a 3rd for him there

He's likely going to be a Ryan Fitzpatrick type once Miami moves on. He'll show flashes of being a capable starter, but ultimately he'll leave teams looking somewhere else every couple years.

Real life, his job is pretty secure. They were coming off a 10-6 season in a division with the Patriots. That's a very good year. We've seen the mess that team is without him.

For fantasy purposes, he's like owning a guy like Flacco or Alex Smith. No one is going to ever mistake them for top talents. They are middling QB2s but with safe jobs. They have value in 2QB and superflex leagues but carry virtually no value otherwise.

Ryan Tannehill - what are you thoughts going forward?

Postby kris_kapsner » Sat Jan 06, 2018 10:25 am

What are your thoughts on Ryan Tannehill going forward?

He turns 30 just before the start of next season. At one point I thought this guy was going to take the next step. It hasn't happened. But, it looks like he'll be fully ready to go for next year and he's already been named the starter.

What do you predict his production will be?

As a Fins fan, I don't like him... He's a year away from being Mark Sanchez type guy who will roam around the NFL, because he's decent enough be a back up but not good enough to run a team.

He can't ever connect with his WRs and no one can give anymore excuses. First it was the coach, then the OC, the oline, then the WRs, then the oline again now the injury. He's been in the league as long as Wilson and RG3 and they give him a long rope because of all these excuses, but I'm tired of them, the NFL needs to realize he's not a starter in this league.

Strongly disagree with the Mark Sanchez part. Tannehill is a lower-tier franchise QB (like Flacco). He's not elite and can't carry a team, but he's good enough to lead a great roster on a playoff run. Not sure Miami will ever have a great roster, but Tannehill is good enough to lead them if they do.

He's a mid-level talent. Nothing special, but you could do worse on a BYE Week.

I had him on my roster for several years waiting for his game to mature, but as has been said it just isn't happening for him. You could do worse if you're looking for QB depth, or in Superflex, but if you're hoping he'll become a top-10 asset at the position I'd look elsewhere instead.

picked him up in a league where IR spots/rosters were short and stashed him . Only have wilson and kizer so will likely keep him as my qb2 at least until browns qb situation changes . I think kizer could get moved if new GM wants to clear the deck for his draftee and then kizer could be more attractive or a cut at that point.

Still has value in a 16-team format or superflex/2QB. I'd buy low for a mid/late 2nd in superflex/2QB if I'm contending, need a QB2/3 upgrade, and can get him fairly cheaply for like a mid/late 2nd. I'd sell high if anyone still thinks he has QB1 potential and will give me an early 2nd or better.

He'll start one more year and then they'll probably look to draft a QB in 2019 to replace him. I just don't think he's very good.
