Bears Sleeper? Tanner Gentry

Titus Davis still didn't make the roster. Interestingly, they cut Gentry before him, but Gentry is the guy they signed to their practice squad, not Davis.

This, to me, suggests strategy; that first wave of cuts across the league had more players, and thus the Bears opted to cut Gentry on that day so as to increase the odds he'd pass through waivers.

I'd been hearing buzz all training camp about his connection with Trubisky. I don't think the last game was when it started.

Yeah. But standing out more in the preseason games is what a rookie UDFA like Gentry needed to do to make the 53. Other teams don't see what a guy does in camp, but they do see what happens in the games. Since Gentry was mostly nondescript in the exhibitions, the Bears were confident they could slip him through waivers and onto their practice squad.

I'm hoping to grab him in my non waiver wire IDP league. Not really sure any player on practice squad should normally be stashed. Maybe put him on your watch list. Think practice squad goes a bit beyond "deep sleeper" label and more into "I can't quit him" sleeper label.

Bears did waive Deonte Thompson but I'd rather have McBride than Gentry...I think.

So happy to see he was added to active roster again! Scooped Gentry up yet again on waivers this morning. Literally the 3rd time I have rostered him in 5 weeks. Not holding my breath, but as a WR8/9 you could do much worse. Think he will be their deep threat/big play guy. Has great rapport with Mitchell T.

does that change anything though? the wr corp is clearly a mess and trub isnt throwing the ball due to mr fox.....gentry may or may not ever get a shot...but this team is a mess right now imo. the demotion means very little in the big picture. there needs to be a changing of the guard in chi town before we can evaluate anyone on the bears properly.

Agreed. I'd rather see him sit on the practice squad this year, working on his route running and learning the playbook.

Dontrelle Inman, could be down the stretch what we wanted Meredith to be this season. In San Diego he was basically Rishard Matthews-lite. Constantly producing WR3/4 numbers even tho he wasn't the most "talented" guy. Nice size on him too
