I thought Drake went early, and before other deserving backs, last year. That was still second rd though, not top ten.

drake went earlier than many draftniks and dynasty guys had him rated but looking back and I understand the jury is still out on last year's class but perkins dixon booker and several other did little to dispute drake being picked higher. He looked alright in the minimal usage and a few explosive type plays . For me it was never about ability just availability as he was injured so much at bama and never really had a full time role . If kamara goes earlier it must at least give you food for thought but even then it would depend where he goes and my confidence in the chance of him being used properly. luke warm at best on him all in all

NFL teams do a lot of things that don't always make sense. If he interviews well, some team will end up ignoring the tape and thinking they will be the ones that figure out how to maximize his talents. Happens all the time. All this means is that maybe McCaffrey slides to 1.07 or 1.08 and you get your guy.
I feel the group think is that he's pretty talented. I really don't know what people are seeing, he looks like a wr playing rb to me and not overly explosive either. Maybe some think he'll be a rich man's Riddick or something but someone I won't be drafting unless it's the 2nd round.

It's all about projecting how these guys turn out.

Number one RB recruit to Alabama then to JUCO to Tenn. I personally think he's a stud who from what I've read was completely misused at Tenn. NFL teams love RBs with low mileage at a high turnover percentage. IMO he could go anywhere from 20 on and I wouldn't be surprised.

Charles isn't a logical parallel here. People only questioned it with Charles due to his size. Not because of his collegiate resume, in which he carried 533 times, including a full yard increase in his YPC from sophomore to junior year despite that final season seeing his heaviest and full feature-back usage (efficiency usually inversely correlates with usage... when it doesn't, it's a real good sign about an RB's ability to handle a load).

People question it with Kamara because he only carried a little over a hundred times in each of just two seasons, and even when he took over Jalen Hurd's starting spot last year, Tennessee still didn't feel comfortable giving him a full load. Even when Hurd was benched/jettisoned for good, the Vols still felt they had to have Kamara split carries with John Kelly, an underclassman and the former third-stringer.

Heck, Kelly actually out-carried Kamara in three of the final four games! This should raise a red flag for our purposes. In the latter half of the season Kamara was getting all sorts of media love, and yet the Vols continued to treat him firmly as a committee-back. Either John Kelly is himself going to be a bigger thing than Kamara when he potentially comes out of Tennessee next year, or we have plain evidence that Kamara's most recent coaching staff didn't view him as a feature or even lead-back.

(although to be fair, I don't know that Butch Jones is a very good coach, so that's one straw to grasp at)

Alvin Kamara hype train! Choo choo

Postby Crwdstunna » Sun Aug 20, 2017 8:56 pm

Allll aboard the Alvin Kamara hype train! Oh the Saints RB situation. I have a feeling that Ingram takes back his role half way through the year from AP then AP is dropped for a sad end to his career. Kamara's pass catching role should be fruitful and he might be worth some bye week fill in starts. Arrow pointing up!

I like Kamara and think he'll have a fine career but I doubt he comes to fantasy relevance this year. Ingram and Peterson are just too good and unless they get injured, Kamara will be a (great) 3rd string RB ala Travaris Cadet.

I agree that the path to fantasy relevance is a little unclear year 1, but I will bet that Kamara has more rushing attempts in the first 5 weeks than Cadet has in the last 2 seasons combined.

I am thinking he will assume Cadet's role as the receiving specialist, with a few carries each week. That isn't enough to put him on the flex radar, but if Ingram or AP gets hurt, Ingram ticks off Payton, or AP doesn't transition to the new offense effectively, that will probably swing enough carries to Kamara to make him startable as a flex/RB2 in PPR.
Dynasty player since 2002.
I probably should have done something more productive with that time...

I'm all aboard! You don't trade a future 2nd pick to have him sit on the bench. If this guy shows he's a player he will get on the field sooner than later.

In my most recent rookie draft Foreman went 2.02 and Kamara went 2.08 so he might not actually be cheaper in everybody's eyes.

I don't think we can really make any assumptions about Peterson at this point. The guy is 32 and coming off a major injury and he didn't even look particularly good last year when he was 31 and healthy.

I reserved my seat on the Kamara train the day he was drafted and I haven't left aboard yet! Absolutely love this guy and think he can be big for this offense eventually.
