Pleasantly surprised he's still available in my 14 team league. He had been picked up and then dropped prior to the preseason games starting so I guess other owners thought he was still rostered.

Hopefully Engram/Gathers will leave me set at TE for the next 10 yrs and I can ignore the position.

I'd consider dropping ASJ for Rico. They're both just low-floor, high-ceiling lottery tickets at TE. It just depends on who you believe in more.

Agreed. I'd absolutely toss a coin between Gathers and ASJ.

Well, as stated in my second to last post here (not including this one), for me it comes down to immediate utility vs 'investment opportunity'. There's no 'investment opportunity' in Clay, I think. With Clay you're getting a known quantity, a borderline TE1/TE2 play that people likely won't ever want to acquire from you for more than a 4th round pick or something. If a dynasty roster's already got one or two equal or better TE starters for their lineup -- which in a 12-team league shouldn't be too hard to manage -- then I can't see Clay having much value to those rosters. So in those cases, for those dynasty rosters, Gathers seems to me like a much better use of the roster space. He might be nothing. But if he does become something, I'm guessing he'll generate more sell-high hype than Clay will ever inspire.

Totally agree. Guess I'm just on the side that it's more likely Gathers is a weekly inactive and Clay is a low end TE1, than it is Gathers becomes a TD maven. But even a couple of good games from Gathers and his perceived value will undoubtedly crush Clay's.

His value arc can very well mimic what we saw of Jordan Cameron, minus the concussions.....

Even in a Superflex, I think I'd rather own Gathers than C. Jones. Highly unlikely Jones ever gets a chance at starting, might as well take the high-upside lottery ticket with Gathers.

FWIW Evan Silva of Rotoworld ranked Gathers as the fourth best rookie* dynasty TE behind only the big 3. Obviously Gathers isn't a rookie but he felt the need to include him in the rankings. Silva also has a lot of hot takes in here such as ranking Fournette behind McCaffrey and Mixon as well as ranking Mike Williams as the 12th rookie WR. So a lot of nonconventional rankings here for sure, but that's one more voice for the Gathers hype train.

Whether you agree or not, it's good that Silva explains his rationale especially when it's not in line with conventional thinking.

The Gathers ranking makes sense since he's as much of a crapshoot as anyone else after the big 3 but he has a year under his belt.

I'm not sure whose post I read about three weeks ago, but it prompted me to go out and immediately pick him up everywhere. So this is a shout out to the couple people who were beating the drum before anyone else. Thank you.

I'd actually personally drop Fleener for him, but I've been pretty vocally anti-Fleener for quite some time now.
