OJ Howard outlook in 2018

Postby Adidas95 » Fri Aug 11, 2017 12:36 pm

Will OJ Howard emerge as a viable starting fantasy TE in 2018?

Maybe 2nd half of the season. I assume he'll be splitting work with Brate to start.

Here's an article written by Scott Barrett of PFF:
https://www.profootballfocus.com/news/f ... tight-ends

The basic stat is that Jameis Winston has a passer rating of 116.8 to TE's and 84.4 targeting all other positions, not to mention he has heavily favored TE's while at FSU .. So, for one his is good at targeting TEs ..

Bucs are obviously modeling a lot of their offensive philosophy around New England, especially focusing on early down efficiency which happen to be throws to TEs ..

I type all this in an effort that even with Brate, there is plenty room for both TEs .. in fact I think with both Brate and OJ Howard the offense will be incredibly efficient, get way more 1st downs, score way more points ..

The outlook is good for OJ Howard in 2018 even if Brate is around for another 8 years..

It's just preseason, but Brate is the man so far in tonight's game. I am very interested to see how he does though.

Howard is bigger, faster, and more agile than Mike Evans. If he has any talent at all he could be better than Gronk. I doubt it of course but the potential is there.

It's possible he could put up a TE1 season as a rookie. He's talented and well-rounded enough to stay on the field, but the Bucs could easily keep playing Cameron Brate, who was good for them last year.

It's pretty rare for a rookie TE to do enough to crack the season top-12 and Brate caps Howard's ceiling. I could see him being viable down the stretch but full season outlook would be TE2 IMO.

This will be a great story to watch. I think Brate might get more playing time than most people think but long-term Howard is the man

I am thinking about taking him with my 1.07 as I have no other TE options out of Brate and Fleener. Love the talent.

OJ Howard next year

Postby Adidas95 » Sat Aug 26, 2017 1:16 pm

Do you guys think he'll be a valuable TE1 next year or still be with Brate?

I have both now. Realistically, he'll probably not be that much of a factor this year. I think Jameis still likes Brate. Hopefully he shows that he can handle the NFL and really turn into something next year.

They didn't draft him this high to have him block. Brate is a really solid TE, but he won't be holding off Howard past week 7/8 this year, let alone next year.

I dunno. I can see the Bucs running a lot of 2TE sets once OJ is up to speed. Evans and DJax (and Hump) on the outside and Brate and OJ at TE is certainly a very nice offense for Jameis to throw in. I feel like this does hurt everyones' value a tad, as Jameis will be spreading the ball around.

I envision the comparison of Hernandez/Gronk combo down the road myself .. Bucs are only going to get more and more efficient on offense.. absolute match-up nightmare at the moment..

Was happy about his rookie season. Slow start but seemed to do pretty good given the lack of opportunities he got. Hoping for a big breakout next year
