I just sent out an offer of

Maclin and 18 round 5
for
Shepard and 18 round 3

I'd be surprised if he took it but figured it was worth a shot.

As much as I love Maclin, that's a nice get if you can work that deal (IMO). Might make sense for both parties.

KU Sucks wrote: Wed Jun 14, 2017 1:58 pm If Maclin was still capable of producing at a true #1 wr level; KC would have found another solution to their cap issue. Andy Reid loved the guy.
There were 4 possible players for KC to cut to fix their cap issue, one of them is the incumbent QB who they need at least this year to bring along their rookie, two of them were multi-year pro bowl edge rushers in a league where getting to the QB is key to most defensive strategies, and the last was Maclin, a WR who AT BEST was the #2 target on the team behind Kelce in an offense that prefers to run the ball and has Tyreek Hill flashing explosiveness all last year

Cutting him had nothing to do with his ability to produce and everything to do with KC's offensive and defensive needs, not to mention that Reid wasn't even consulted about the move, it was as much a surprise to him as it was to Maclin so whether he liked him or not is irrelevant
But then why did they wait until after OTA's to cut him? If it was inevitable, and Reid loves / respects Maclin, why wouldn't they cut him in the off-season in order to realize the cap savings earlier on, create cap space during Free Agency, and do Maclin a solid by letting him earn a big pay-day on the open market?

I don't think Maclin is on a steep decline and can't contribute anymore. But I don't think he's looked very explosive over the past 2 years, and the timing of his release should at least raise an eyebrow. Throw in a mediocre passing game and a lot of other targets (Wallace, Perriman, Woodhead, Dixon, the TE's) on a team that should be much improved defensively, and I don't see Maclin as anything more than a boring WR #3 / Flex player.
You are really over thinking things.

Maclin has the talent to be a solid WR2 this year for sure, the question is can he stay healthy. IMO he is by far the Ravens best WR.

2017 stats: 40 rec, 440 yards, 3 TDs. Missed 5 games. I had pretty high hopes for him but clearly 2017 wasn't his year.

Given the Ravens passing attack was a dumpster fire in 2017, Maclin signed a 2-year contract before the 2017 season but could be cut to save cap space. What are people thoughts on him? Hope he stays in BAL and that their passing attack turns it around next year? Or hope he gets cut and signs elsewhere?

If he stays in Baltimore and Flacco doesn't retire, what is his value moving forward? I would say fairly low for the foreseeable future.

Emergency depth guy. Bye week filler, He is a guy that you'll get or give as a smaller part of a larger trade. He has some value but not enough to go shop for. At best, on most average rosters, he is a wr 4-5 type guy. I'll confess, I was slightly optimistic about him (Maclin) earlier in the year, and was subsequently let down by most of the offense. I think Flacco has got to be close to done. He looked so ineffective for much of the year. Unrelated note; I was quite impressed by A.Collins though.

I’m not cashing out to that degree quite yet. I still think he can put forward a WR3 season going forward. Call me crazy. Can’t bank on him as a starter, but I’m not labeling him waiver fodder quite yet.

If he had played a full season would he have projected as a WR3?

Maybe statistically but no one was comfortable with him starting, ever. I definitely didn't foresee such a dumpster fire :(

Nothing wrong with a bold take - especially one that in a different scenario could have panned out
