How to Take Down the Powerhouse?

Postby DLF3000 » Wed May 24, 2017 5:24 pm

Plenty of leagues have that one GM that just fleeces other teams repeatedly in trades, somehow still collects extra draft picks, strikes draft/waiver wire gold all the time, and dominates nearly every year.

How do you take down these powerhouse teams? Besides beating some sense into the other GMs? :P

The only tip I have is: DON'T FEED THE BEAST. True story: almost 10 years in now, and I've made exactly 0 trades with the powerhouse team! Incredible... but true.

If you trust yourself, why not make a trade with the BEAST?

I trust me, it's him I don't trust! :P

I mean, he seems to "win" every trade, so I really don't want to risk contributing to that at all - while risking damaging my own team at the same time. Looks like lose-lose to me.

Agreed. Only solution is to not feed the beast. If that dominant team continues to dominate via trade rape, at least you're not part of the problem.

I don't think there is anything you can do except wait for their decline. At some point, you have to hope that other owners wise up and don't give him these wins.

If you believe he is just plain better at player evaluation than you are (that's depressing to any owner) then don't feed him. If you believe that he's a good evaluator but no better than you (just more aggressive in trade talks), then have no fear trading with him.

Don't trade with the few teams that feed him. Eventually they won't have anything to help the beast....and he'll come back to the pack.

It may be time to find a New owner or two if the beast keeps fleecing the same few teams.

Have a guy like in 2 of my leagues, we do a lot of negotiations but rarely end up striking a deal because he usually ends up on the "winning" side, did get him once so it's worth it to go through the steps, no reason to pass on a deal that would help your team

If you study a lot and draft and trade correctly you will eventually be the powerhouse team. I joined a league that won 3 years in a row. I just won my first championship last year and planning on winning more. Try your best to become the best.

Beat him to punch and trade with teams he is usually trading with before he can trade with them in the first place. If it's really that easy for him to fleece those teams, it shouldn't be hard for you to do it.
