Re: Zero Trade Dynasty Strategy?
My team in sig had zero trades until this year, with only 2017 draft picks accumulated. It just happened to be a league with a lot of low ball offers throughout the years and little activity. Now i am trying to slowly get younger while staying competitive since it is still a very win now team, obviously.

Haha I certainly don't think an owner who took Dixon around 1.08-1.12 last year, feels like they drafted a bust?skip wrote: ↑Mon May 22, 2017 8:44 pmI see what you did there... Because Henry is good and Dixon is not. Henry was going as early as 1.02 in some leagues. Dixon was dropping into the second in some.lukkynumber13 wrote: ↑Mon May 22, 2017 9:09 pmVery true! I doubt that was Skip's point tho, as Henry is his boy.

Dixon went as early as 1.5 in some leagues that I saw. Henry dropped to the 2nd in some.skip wrote: ↑Mon May 22, 2017 9:44 pmBecause Henry is good and Dixon is not. It doesn't do justice to look at the two extremes. I like Henry more, though. I just don't dislike Dixon.
Re: Zero Trade Dynasty Strategy?
It certainly interesting, but I'm not sure how much it isolates skill versus luck. I've seen a top-3 scoring team finish 2nd to last in a 12-team league, just because of bad timing of matchups. A good playoff run by a bad team could also doom them for years.
However, mostly above all of these an unforeseen bust like a Trich, a bad situation like Gurley, injury nightmare like Kevin White, or striking gold on David Johnson, Arob, OBJ, M Thomas with late picks will skew the league. I'm not sure I buy too much of the skill argument when deciding between Jordan Matthews or OBJ on rookie draft... Or Marqise Lee or Arob during the rookie draft or drafting Kevin White over David Johnson.

Re: Zero Trade Dynasty Strategy?
some just like trading and some cant win without trading.....no trading would ultimately take the fun out of it for the "competitive owner". they wouldnt be able to "have fun" acquiring 1st's or adding the last piece or 2. admit it or not...some just cant stand losing...and they would quit. no trading in a dynasty league would not work because owners this dedicated cant imagine being able to make their team better only once a year. even the successful owners who trade the least, still make a move every now and then.DLF3000 wrote: ↑Mon May 22, 2017 3:51 pm So after seeing so many one-sided or terrible value trades over the years (the latest of which was Derek Carr for a 2nd and 3rd round rookie pick two months ago - WAIT, WHAT?!), I started to wonder:
Is it even possible to win dynasty with zero trades?
How would you do it - what would you suggest you do, or do a lot more of, since you're not tapping into trading as a resource?
Or is trading so exploitable with some people and/or situations that you can't win dynasty without it?
Re: Zero Trade Dynasty Strategy?
I mean, I'm all for new formats. You'd have to design a specific league around this idea though, because it's so opposed to what most leagues do. Namely, I think such a league would have to be best ball, with more flexes than assigned positions. And unless you want high owner turnover, there would have to be some like, keeper limit almost. As for myself, I wouldn't play this game without trades but hope it works out.

Re: Zero Trade Dynasty Strategy?
Another option that may (or may not) change the basic premise of this league would be to allow trading of draft picks only.
The best ball format was my thought as well. If for no other reason than the participation rate. I would expect this to be a very low maintenance league, especially during the season. Something akin to the MFL-10s. That sort of league would fit with best ball ... you could go a step closer to the MFL-10s and eliminate the free agents as well.

Re: Zero Trade Dynasty Strategy?
I'm in a draft-only best ball devy league. No waivers, free agency, or trades. It's more of an experiment than a truly competitive league, but I think it would be fun for the right group, and it's very good at isolating "skill" -- if by skill we mean prospect evaluation.

How old is the league, and what are your thoughts so far? How many rounds is the rookie draft, and are free agents included? Sorry for all the questions. This sounds intriguing.dlf_jules wrote: ↑Tue May 23, 2017 7:29 am I'm in a draft-only best ball devy league. No waivers, free agency, or trades.
