The #4 WR

Postby Cult of Dionysus » Mon May 22, 2017 3:08 pm

There's been a lot of discussion about the 2nd tier of RBs and the gluttony at TE in this rookie class. But little focus.has been given to the WR behind the consensus top 3 (Davis Williams >>> Ross).

Who is the 4th WR on this class and how far behind Ross is he?

I think JuJu, Godwin and Zay Jones are all in the discussion.

I liked JuJu until he went to PIT. Deep corps there and Big Ben will hang it up soon. So don't see him being FF relevant anytime soon.

I really like Godwin, I don't know why he fell in the draft. I think he's much more dynamic and has much greater play strength than Zay Jones. I have no idea what Buffalo was thinking.

I like Godwin's talent and metrics over Zay. Zay's college production was gimmicky and I don't think he will be able to play on the outside in the NFL. Godwin is buried in TB but long term I see him as the superior receiver.

Godwin fell to 4.12 in a recent salary cap draft I was in. Crazy.

I'll admit I was scared to take him, especially because it's salary cap so I'm more interested in guys who will produce early. Godwin reeks of Carroo to me, in terms of landing spot & draft position.

I agree with this.

I have Zay even over Ross if I'm being honest with myself. Ross is better than just a straight line speed guy, but in my opinion he's going to be the guy that has three or four 100-yard games sprinkled among a ton of 2-catch 17 yard games: the epitome of "better real life asset than fantasy producer."

Zay has the ability to at least be a more consistent producer, especially in PPR. I just like his game for what Buffalo wants to do: run the ball and then move the chains with the pass when they have to.

I may be getting Sankey'd, but I think his game of catch & run is perfect in Buffalo, where Watkins can take up the brunt of the coverage and Zay can scoop up targets. I would set his rookie line as over/under 60 catches, and could see him catching 85 balls for the next 4-5 years.

On pure talent alone, I'd rather have Godwin over Ross. I have no idea why he's falling so much in recent drafts. He's got the tools to be a true WR1 one day. I don't really see that from anyone else in this draft outside of Davis and Williams.

I prefer Godwin to Zay but in terms of opportunity Zay has the best shot at not only immediate playing time but also significant targets.

JuJu's stock is climbing in my opinion also. Green being cut is a good thing for him IMO. Also, their corps really isn't that crowded considering Coates isn't any good and Bryant is a ghost.

That makes sense given a salary cap league. I personally would not compare Godwin to Caroo though, I always thought Carroo was completely average and overrated among the dynasty community. Godwin strikes me as a Roddy White type of player, like he could be a really high-end #2 receiver. It's pretty rare you get a fast, athletic, strong receiver with good hands and runs good routes from both sides of the field and also wins contested catches. He literally does it all. I just still don't understand why he went at the bottom of the 3rd. Roddy was more productive in college and a 1st round pick so I guess there are some differences there that I don't see.

Juju could be a good receiver as well, I just didn't see any "wow" factor in college. But he could be (probably will be) a solid pro.

Juju/Zay/Godwin....personally wouldn't fault anyone for preferring one over the others but they are quite a way behind Ross for me
