D'Onta Foreman, buy him now?

Postby lukkynumber13 » Fri May 19, 2017 7:31 pm

If you think about it D'Onta Foreman is in a remarkably similar position to Derrick Henry last year.

Big production from big program

Great size and speed, yet not as powerful as his body suggests

Taken with some very solid draft capital, although obviously Henry beats him by a round

Sitting behind established starter, but we are skeptical of both incumbents (Murray due to age, Milller due to struggles maintaining workload)

Thoughts? And yes I drafted Foreman in 1 league, but these are sincere musings, not an attempt to drum up interest in him haha

I am really torn on how i feel about him. I wont touch him in the late first, at this point at least. How early in the second i grab him is where the debate lies. All my leagues are full ppr, so that really hurts his floor, short and long term. I do like his situation overall and think he can have a solid career. I like the Henry comparison and i know i had soured on Derrick at this point last year too. Then i grabbed him at 1.07 in one league and actually felt good about it. My gut tells me Foreman will grow on me more. Maybe the Boomer Sooner in me is clouding my judgement (though i will never admit it).

This is exactly what I've been thinking, yet somehow Foreman is a bum getting drafted in the 3rd while Henry was the 1.03 last year... Not saying they should have identical value but his talent is much greater than a lot of guys being drafted ahead of him this year.

have the 2.02, 2.10 and 2.12 in my league, planning on taking Perine with the 2.02 since I have kelley but definitely considering Foreman with either of the two later 2nds

I get the comparison and where you're trying to go with this, but there are a lot of differences. Henry balled out on a great team that went to national championships just about every year, and played in arguably a much tougher conference. Foreman played on a very bad Texas team that's been struggling for a few years now. I guess you can argue Henry played with better players, so it made it easier for him to produce, but he just looked a lot better on film. I still like Forman and think he'll be good, but I doubt he'll be as good as Henry.

Don't get me wrong, I am NOT impressed with what I see from Foreman's tape. I think he looks like Jeremy Hill or Robert Turbin.

But Houston sure seems to like him!

I've been grabbing all kinds of shares of Foreman. Cheap as bleep too. Dynasty owners are so funny. When Joe Williams starts going ahead of a RB who's 230 pounds running 4.5 and just ran for 2,000 yards..we've gone too far. Don't overthink this one. Lamar Miller is a very average RB. Texans are an elite landing spot for a RB, as they are #1 in total attempts and 6th in rushing % in the 3 years under O'Brien. Miller is completely cuttable after 2017. Foreman is 230 pounds..real bellcow potential..even if he doesn't become a great RB, from a perception standpoint, he will be the starter eventually and his "value" will climb.

Totally agree on the craziness of Joe Williams

I'm pretty high on Foreman and could definitely see Miller being let go next year and Foreman taking over. I expect a great career from him. Get him while he's still cheap. Miller isn't a workhorse. That's something everyone knows.

The fumbling problem gives me pause but it's not something I'd know that he fixed until well after the draft. Not a bad option in that next tier of backs. Definitely seems like he'd have a clear role on the Texans.

He played last year with a broken hand. Likely had an impact on ball security & pass pro.

There's no way Foreman has a 3rd Round ADP right now.

If he does, then it's an even easier decision to buy. I have him in the mid 1st. He has a similar run style as Lacy and Henry, but he really needs work in all aspects of the passing game, especially pass protection. I feel like that could limit his upside way below Henry going forward.

See him going mid 2nd. Loved his stats and can see him eventually taking over in Houston but just see a Tevin Coleman or Henry situation. Might take a while to get there, but when he does, watch out! Year one will be a wait and see. I think year 2 he shows up with the job though. Rooting for him.
