Possibility that Any RB in GB Not Names Ty or Jamaal Wins the Job?

Postby ascherb » Sun May 14, 2017 8:15 pm

Is it a foregone conclusion that Montgomery is the guy as the season progresses?

The Packers drafted and signed a lot of rookie backs. Jamaal Williams seems to be the guy people are expecting the most out of out of that group, but what about the other guys? Anyone worth taking a chance on at the end of the draft?

Haven't seen any of Jones. What's his deal? Sounds like he's more of a receiving back?

Jones is nice and did it all for UTEP for a long time. Not only a pass catcher. He is my dark horse to take over in GB moving TY to the Cobb role, Jamaal to a breather/
backup role. Would actually be ideal if GB could get Cobb off the books as Monty wont resign for anything near Cobb's deal. RBs would be cheap for 4 years and grow together. Monty can do everything Cobb can and is better out of the backfield

Jones. I have multiple shares and have zero desire of obtaining Williams. He profiles better in terms of athleticism and production. Granted, GB picked Williams first, so that gives him the edge to any rational observer, but I just think Jones will be the guy to own come November. Ultimately it will come down to who is better at passpro. Keeping Rodgers upright will go a long way.

Jones is a really good player. The only knock on him is his size 5'9"

Drafted him at 4.05 as a dart throw, looked like he was projected as an all rounder/early down guy, most recently seeing pass catcher, guess we'll find out soon enough

Ray Rice was 5'9" and 195. MJD was 5'7". Jones has the size (208) to go along with being shorter in stature. Height (or lack thereof) for a RB really isn't a knock.

I don't think Aaron Jones wins the job outright in a 3 down capacity, but it I do find it very intriguing that the Packers have a guy like him on the roster... so I am very curious to see how they respond to his skill set and what they draw up for him ..

I like Jones. I really don't get the Jamal Williams love. Everyone dropped Cooks down their board because if his poor showing at the combine but Williams was even worse. He is an easy fade for me at where he is going. I am perfectly happy scooping up Jones a round later.

Regarding Jones, we've seen a few of these situations lately where teams drafted multiple backs in the mid/late rounds. It seems like the later guy is always the "sexy" pick that gets a lot of message board hype. How have those worked out? I'm genuinely asking here, not sure of the results. The only one I can think of offhand is Seattle and Alex Collins hasn't exactly been very relevant.

Difference between the Jones situation and the Collins situation last year is there was a 4 round difference between Collins and Prosise and there was only a round difference between Jones and Williams.

In 2013, the packers drafted Eddie Lacy in the second round and then Johnathan Franklin in the 4th.
