I agree with this. What a beast of a red zone target. Had a great game last night. Needs more targets going forward but it just might not be there since he's the 3rd or 4th option next seasonFriction wrote: ↑Thu Dec 13, 2018 10:30 pm He will be solid next year in standard leagues. Full PPR will be a little tougher as he just does not seem like he will ever be a high volume guy. Great in the red zone and moving the chains, and nights like tonight show he could be the guy. Too many mouths to feed at the moment to be that guy right now. WR2 ceiling in standard leagues. Still a WR3 for me in ppr. You could maybe talk me into a low end 2 if the chips falls right.

Re: Mike Williams = Superstar
Major Bump. Not about to read 16 pages of this but I saw on the first page someone mention the problem he has of target share, and its a problem he will always have on the Chargers. I hate that being an issue I see in his game because its not something he can control or get better at. He may always be a boom or bust guy but if he somehow has booms like last night more regularly than he may be a guy you have to start and rely on others for consistency.

Re: Mike Williams = Superstar
As I'm sure has been stated, the problem with Mike Williams will be targets. He is probably one of the most talented #3/#4 targets in the NFL (Allen, Gordon, then a combination of him and Hunter Henry when he returns). If he were to end up somewhere else I wouldn't be surprised if we were talking high end #2 WR... but for the forseeable future he is unfortunately nothing more than a boom/bust WR3.
Now if Allen misses time that's a different story...

Re: Mike Williams = Superstar
Just sucks that is a reason he may not be fantasy relevant and very frustrating as an owner. You know a guy has talent but it wont get used. Part of me would rather have him suck so at least I know he is cuttable or tradeable but this guy is no where close to being either at this point, but he also isn't close to being a must start or even a bye week fill in based solely on his major boom or bust nature. if some of those 2 point games could turn into 10 id easily start him every week.

I left him on my bench for Larry Fitz and Kenyan Drake in a 3rb, 4wr, and flex deep league

Re: Mike Williams = Superstar
Somebody asked me today if I thought that Hunter Henry returning next year was going to hurt Mike's target volume next season. It's an interesting question and my knee jerk response is, no. I think it's more about whether Tyrell is gone or not.
Just to break it down a little...Hunter Henry was on a 70 target pace in 2017 when we last saw him. Mike is on a similar pace this year. The BIG if, is whether Tyrell & Antonio are gone next year. If they are both gone, they will vacate around 114 targets, some of which can go to Hunter Henry, some of which can go to Mike Williams and the rest will go to whoever else is playing in three receiver sets or catching balls out of the backfield.

If Mike Williams is going to be a star in this league, then the argument of "too many mouths to feed" shouldn't have too much bearing on him. Might it lower his ceiling? Sure, but it shouldn't impede him from showing out - especially since his style is wholly opposite that of Allen's.
Stafford is no better at QB than Rivers, and he supported a trio of WR2s the first half of the season.
Big ben is supporting a pair of WR1s, a pair of TE2s, and still getting multiple targets per game to their RB.
Matt Ryan is supporting a hyper-elite WR1, a TE1, and a pair of WR3s

Re: Mike Williams = Superstar
I don't really believe Mike Williams is going to be a star but I can't see why the Chargers wouldn't continue to expand his role. Keenan and Gordon are the stars on this offense but that doesn't mean Mike can't grow into a more consistently fantasy relevant role than he has had this season.lukkynumber13 wrote: ↑Fri Dec 14, 2018 10:26 am If Mike Williams is going to be a star in this league, then the argument of "too many mouths to feed" shouldn't have too much bearing on him.

Re: Mike Williams = Superstar
This is a good argument to make. Im not sure if he will be a star either but im hoping for High End Wr2 from him which could be possible in this offense. I guess we will see. I can see him having more Tds than Keenan but Keenan having more over all points. All I know about Williams is for a 2nd year Wr he has progressed majorly and that's a great sign for his future and all we can really ask for at this point. Last year was essentially a lost season for him. If we were to look at this has his rookie season I think his stock would be much higher. Yet I understand we cant look at it as his rookie season since its not. Any owner should be happy with his progression up to this point and hopefully next year he gets more consistentlukkynumber13 wrote: ↑Fri Dec 14, 2018 10:26 am If Mike Williams is going to be a star in this league, then the argument of "too many mouths to feed" shouldn't have too much bearing on him. Atlanta and Pittsburgh have among the highest percentage of pass attempts in the league.
The issue for Mike Williams isn't just competition for targets, but overall volume. They need either fewer targets to funnel the limited targets distributed or more attempts in a "rising tide lifts all boats" sort of way. Otherwise, Williams will be a TD dependent depth option that could blow up when the alpha receiver gets injured.

LOOOOOOOOOOVED this guy in College, so I was waiting for a performance like this. Glad he finally did it.
Re: Mike Williams = Superstar
He actually had an 81 yard 2 TD game in week three and another two TD performance in week 12...so not exactly the first time he's blown up a little. This is just the first time he was truly featured (despite getting out targeted by the bane of my existence Tyrell Williams).turcorox911 wrote: ↑Sun Dec 16, 2018 5:01 pm LOOOOOOOOOOVED this guy in College, so I was waiting for a performance like this.
