How often do you get horrible trade offers?

Postby hockeyBjj » Tue May 09, 2017 8:42 am

I understand vastly one sided trade offers happen, but in my current league it's like some guys' strategy is just to throw out garbage weekly and hope you click on the wrong button and accidentally accept

Currently have these in my inbox

Get: Tyreek Hill
Give: 1.03

Get: Devonate Parker
Give: Caroo Leontee, Theo Riddick, 3.04, 2018 2nd,

Get: Devontae Parker
Give: 2018 round 1, 2018 round 2, Jordan Mathews

Get: Devonate Adams, 1.07, 2.06
Give: Jarvis Landry, 1.06, 2.04, 3.05

These happen very frequently, with one of the guys a repeat offender that everyone in the league knows he always offers horrible things. Sadly, he's the comish

Sure, you're going to have guys who have no idea what they are doing but you're also going to have guys that are going to test the waters and see what you know.

Are you even counter-offering? Or opening the dialogue? If not, then the people who don't respond to offers are just as bad as those who throw out terrible ones.

during the season, all the time, in 2015 (before his breakout) I had a guy offer me Davante Adams for Melvin Gordon and David Johnson around week 6 or 7 then send me a link to some random website that said he would have more value for the future, ended up picking up Adams off waivers last year anyway

Kind of frustrating at times, but I'd rather get bad offers than no offers, can usually counter the bad and see if we can find something to help both sides

I get bad offers all the time. I think bad offers are a consequence of being burned in trades before, so they send obviously low offers so-as to avoid it from happening again.

Don't take it as a sign of bad offers, take it as a sign of an open dialogue. They just want information, but are too scared to make what they see in their minds is a reasonable offer.

Keep in mind that owners can evaluate players very differently...

Trade 1: I don't like Tyreek Hill all that much and value him around 2.02, but I can envision a scenario in 2018 where Mahomes is the starting QB, and Hill is catching 50-yard TDs every other game like Martavis Bryant 2.0.

Trade 2: You might not love Parker, but I think his upside can still be pretty high. That package is worth 2 2nds + 2 3rds, which isn't a terrible amount to give up for him if you believe in him.

Trade 3: Yeah this is the only really bad one that I would just reject and move on from without a counter.

Trade 4: This is about as even as you can get. I see absolutely nothing wrong with this offer...why do you think this is horrible?

Whenever I put a player on the block!

That is one of the better aspects about putting picks on the block just before or during a draft, you generally get reasonable offers straight away.

Bad offers are part of the territory. Nobody's going to send their best offer at first most likely. I actually like when I get offers, even bad ones. I usually take any offer as an opening to start a dialogue of what the other owner is trying to accomplish with any trade. Then I can decide if there is something that might work for my team, or if it's not worth pursuing.

That 2nd offer is in your favor. IMO

The others are bad. After you get an offer you can counter a fair offer or just tell them your not interested in X player or moving Z player.

Sometimes offers are so bad that you think not to counter. Maybe the thought process is 'this guy only wants to trade-rape me' or a deal clearly in their favor.

I would caution from ignoring offers, it's nice to find out how high or low owners value players. Maybe you see a trend/weakness that you can exploit in a future deal.

I understand the frustration. But trading is important it can help you get out from a declining asset or buy a rising asset before it's asking price is unreasonable.

I'm completely content with getting a bad offer when both parties can agree that it is. I understand getting the ball rolling but when the sender believes he is sending you a solid offer that's when it gets worrisome.... I love having open dialogue with others and communicating as if you actually want to play with your league mates but when you get someone who can't admit they are sending an obvious low ball offer then I am saddened.

THANK YOU. Not everyone hangs out around boards like this or checks every single ranking they can find. Sometimes guys genuinely think they're offering a fair deal, and ignoring them instead of trying to open a dialogue is even worse than offering a bad deal.

I'm sorry OP but I can't get over the fact that you used the wrong version of Davante/Devante 3 times in a row.

You even used Devonate. Twice. lol

Ok, maybe I'm the one more in the wrong here. I did let her know that I wasn't interested in Parker, and just rejected the Hill one. I'll change the way I view things

Really tho on the Devante (lol, sorry) Adams for Landry? I view them as even at best or Landry worth more. Him trying to move up two rounds and get a third on top of that?
