Kelvin Benjamin

Postby colonnaj94 » Mon May 08, 2017 1:58 pm

Hey guys, I'm just trying to figure out where all of this Kelvin Benjamin hate is coming from.

I know, he is definitely not a fantasy WR1, but why can't he be a solid WR2 or a high end WR3?

He's the true WR1 in Carolina, at least for now, and he should see some high volume, and now that there are actual weapons in Carolina (McCaffery Samuel etc) there will be less attention towards Benjamin thus possibly more opportunities.

I know, he's not the greatest, but its almost as if he has literally 0 value right now?

I just don't get the hate.

I agree he isn't a wr1 but I don't mind the hate. Means I can try to get him cheaper if hurting for a wr in a league.

I'd take but it's been hard to get him cheap. The offers I've sent have been countered with WR1 value.

-Overweight/out of shape
-Team just drafted an RB in the first and second rounds
-Cam had rotator cuff surgery this March/April and will miss 4 months of offseason stuff
-Cam just isn't a super great QB to begin with

I posted this before, but it's relevant here, so I'll repost...

His weight isn't a huge deal. This was made to be a big deal in previous off seasons, (when things that should be nothing are turned into something for the NFL news starved) and he had the weight off by mid August, making it much ado about nothing.

Actually based on the roster, and anticipated changes coming to the panthers, I think this will be Benjamin's best season yet.

* Ginn is off to New Orleans, so those long bomb TDs are pretty much gone - which would likely lead to a more pass happy game script (as they can't just go run heavy after scoring a bomb TD).

* They claim that Newton will be more protected regarding play calls (putting him in harms way) and therefore likely to have less red zone runs to protect him.

*Newton should be better this yr after the corrective surgery. Last year was the worst cmp % in his entire career, and the worst TD/INT ratio since his rookie year. Would anticipate a positive regression.

*McCaff, (if successful as a rookie), will help get the offense down the field, but isn't built to be a redzone threat. (Although he did get 13 rushing TDs last yr at stanford, I just don't see that potential in the NFL). NTM it will be defenses will have to focus on McCaff, thereby creating more opp for KBenj to get open.

*Both Olsen and Jstew aren't getting any younger so the probability for a decrease in production is elevated.

The overall net effect, is Benjamin's biggest competition for redzone opportunities will decrease, which could correlate to increased redzone opportunities for Benjamin.

Benjamins best attribute is his size/redzone ability.

Expecting to see slightly better numbers than his rookie yr. Have him stated out at 75-1000-10

Another stat to note: Kelvin Benjamin has never been lower than WR 19 in any of the years he's played.

WR 16 in 2014
WR 19 in 2016

And last yr Cam had a bum shoulder...there's a high potential for a positive regression back to his rookie season numbers

Looks like CAR is moving him to offensive tackle.

I mean, the bad side is that he will have to drop some weight.

The upside is hes always been good at dropping so the transition should be easy for him.

 That made me laugh, thank you :). For real, 280 pounds is a lot of weight for a receiver to carry in the offseason. there's a difference between showing up 15-20 pounds overweight and showing up 40-45 pounds overweight.

A couple weeks ago, I traded him for Decker and a 2018 first and have zero regrets. His stats last year were propped up by a good start. He was almost unstartable the second half of the season. He will always be a (relative) high floor guy because of the touchdowns but you are also going to see a lot of 2-24-0, 3-31-0 type weeks. I am very concerned about the way he takes care of his body. He should be at his physical prime - imagine how he is going to be in 2-3 years.

Rivera said that those reports weren't accurate, FWIW. I tend to believe him. 280 is

Don't complain. Let others chase guys like Moncrief, Lockett, etc. KB is far better and generally cheaper.

Put it in perspective... Two full seasons from KB have been better than two from Keenan, and the latter has a start-up ADP I'm the second round.

That's really not how rotator cuff tears work...like sure he could play after 4 months but it's still like constant rehab and his throwing mechanics are gonna be a bit off for a while, it's certainly not gonna make him instantly better

He must still have value, i just got offered him for my 1.02, and i have to throw in a player to even it out. In reality, i have never been a fan, but he has seemed to outperform expectations. He just is oneof those players i dont ever foreseee being on a roster of mine.
