Any league I'm in that somebody owns him, sending out a future 2013 2nd pick is most definately not enough for owners which I agree with. I would take him late in the 1st if I was drafting this year and I had that pick so no I wouldn't balk at it, if somebody gets them later I just applaud the value. If your picking at the end of each round, and your not sure that he makes it to your 2nd round pick, there is no such thing as taking him too soon if you take him with that 1st rd pick, especially if you really covet him. I'd take him over Sanu pretty easily but that's just me.
I agree with you to an extent. I'd definitely take him over Sanu, but the big question is whether you'd take him over guys like Hill, Quick, Randle or Miller who are all garnering late 1st consideration as well.

That's the their of players I personally put him in, where I think he fits in at in terms of talent and upside. Even if he's at the end of that tier it's roughly a late 1st/early 2nd grade for me at least.

I took Flash Gordon with the 2.09 rookie pick in a 12-team salary cap/contract league earlier today. Hill, Quick, and Randle were already drafted. Sanu, Childs, Criner, Broyles, Toon, Jenkins, and Hilton were available. I felt Gordon had a better combination of talent and opportunity.

Our's was rookie/FA as well. The only FA that went before him was Ridley.

When I took him Hill, Quick, Miller, Hillman had all went. I did however take him over Randle.

Josh Gordon

Postby dm1129 » Sat Aug 25, 2012 10:39 am

He made a nice catch last night while being blanketed by Asomugha. Going against the Eagles #1s, he ended up with 3 catches for 50 yards in the first half. This is a kid who just turned 21 years old a few months ago and did not even PLAY football last year. I know he failed 3 drug tests in college for marijuana. Does anyone know if there are other off-the-field concerns with this guy?

Who cares? If the guy is making plays I like his upside.

I hope your not his Dad checking up on him or his owner in Cleveland just trying to get some inside information hahaha.

Good players will play. Who cares if it comes with the odd few game suspension.

LOL, I love the guy as a football player! I want to take him with my next pick in my draft later today. If marijuana is the only 'red flag', then this kid could be really, really good.

Gordon owners will need to be patient with him, but he has the measurables of any legit WR in the league if not better. Unfortunately measurables don't make plays. If he works he could be a serious force to reckon with. Just don't expect WR1 numbers this year.

I picked him up as I believe he has the talent to be a legit WR1, but needs some work.

I agree with hot nikkels. In a year or two, he could possibly put up WR1 numbers.

Matt Stafford, Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers, Eli Manning, Matt Ryan, Cam Newton, Skelton/Kolb, Ben Roethlisberger, Drew Brees, Phil Rivers.

Those are the QBs of the WR1s last year. Either you were Larry Fitzgerald, or you added over 40 points in rushing value (Harvin). Obviously some WRs end up having top 10/12 seasons without stellar QB play, but to project that from somebody who's A) Not an AJ/Julio type prospect and B) Looks tied to Brandon Weeden for a while is reaching an awful lot.

Gordon does look very good. I'd say WR2 upside.

Weeden is so old I'm not even worried about it, and a whole new regime will be in soon and want their new QB, plus Cleveland is going to be picking top 5 most likely for a few more years. Gordon is going to take some time to hit his stride, so I'd just ride him out on your bench and exercise patience. It's been so long for him since he's played consistent football, I'd likely see him as a year 3 breakout guy more so then a guy who can be a fantasy producer in year 1 or 2.

So only guys with the pedigree of Julio or Green are WR1 prospects...ok got it.

Tell that to guys like Greg Jennings, Victor Cruz, Steve Smith, etc.

Sorry, while I generally agree with what you're saying, it's a poor argument.

Let's not forget Cris Carter was a supplemental draft pick...

I also like that he has a solid WR across from him so if he does emerge he won't get triple covered. And with Trich there, he should further see reasonable coverages, so even with Weeden he could produce reasonable numbers. That said, anything over 700 yards in 2012 and I will be pleasantly surprised.
