Kenneth Dixon Value *PVP POLL* 5/1/17

Postby lukkynumber13 » Mon May 01, 2017 2:28 pm

How do we view Kenneth Dixon right now? Still has the suspension looming, and Woodhead may sap some PPR value, but I have to think he won overall with Baltimore ignoring RBs through the draft & UDFAs, right??

Worth a stab around the 1.10-1.12?

I'd say he's about that range. I'd rather have him over Perine, Hunt and others in that range.

That's about what I was thinking. Traded my 2.01 in a rookie draft that's ongoing, got Dixon and a solid IDP asset

Got lucky and bought him for 2.11 the night before the draft. Once the 5th round passed and the Ravens hadn't bitten on any of the RBs, I started to hyperventilate.

Post draft, anywhere in the 1.10 -- 2.03 range would seem to be a realistic asking price for owners. I'd pay 1.11 if I needed RB help (and most dynasty teams do need that help).

1.10-1.12 is fair. I think starting at pick 7 I'd consider trading for him, as I'd rather have him over all the tight ends, day 2 WR's and then it's your flavor on the rookie RB's vs him, but they're essentially all in the same situation. Dixon should be the starter by the 2nd half of the season. Woodhead is a concern in theory but he's also 32 years old coming off an ACL. Could easily be an after thought by week 5-6.

Where would he go if drafted in this class? 5th round? 6th round? He didn't do anything special as a rookie and got popped for PEDs.

How can we be valuing this kid more than players drafted higher than him in a much stronger, deeper class? A first round pick is laughable to me. I'd happily add to him for the likes of Jamaal Williams.

Even if he manages to take the job--what's half a season of low end RB2 production in a time share? He'll promptly be replaced next season. He's a rotation guy and nothing more. He was simply talked up due to a weak class. If he came out this year, he'd be lost in the mix as the fringe 2nd round rookie pick he is.

Watch the New England game last year. His tape is pretty impressive and he got better as the season wore along.

Based just on the game log: He averaged 3.5 YPC and 5.3 YPR. His production was all volume based. James White had roughly the same impact on 5 touches. He dominated in the SB. I'm not sure anybody here is offering a high 3rd round pick for him, however.

It would not be advisable to gauge a player's talent based off of a game log. Dixon played VERY well in the NE game

How can you compare the two? James White is a 200 pound receiving back. Obviously he's excellent out of the backfield, but he's not a 3 down player. Dixon has the size to be a 3 down back weighing in at 215.

Looking at stat lines will not tell you the whole story. He was the best back in training camp and started the 3rd pre-season game and was flashing before he sprained his MCL on a goal line carry. He missed the first month of the season, and was brought back slowly wearing a brace which limited his mobility a bit and you could tell he was still tentative in his cuts. As the season wore on, his snap counts continued to rise. The problem was that he struggled in pass protection and it's something he should improve upon as a sophomore.

But the key stat that I look at is that he led all 41 backs that had at least 71 attempts in forced missed tackles per attempt. That's impressive. The reason why his stats were middling is because the offensive line was pretty poor, his injury slowed him down early, and pass protection allowed a full back to catch almost 40 balls. They lost Osemele in free agency and drafted Stanley at LT and also a 4th round pick at guard (Alex Lewis). They were the first team in over 20 years to start rookies at those positions. Jeremy Zuttah was one of the worst centers in the game and is no longer on the team. They did lose Wagner to the Lions but with Stanley and Lewis growing and Yanda as one of the best guards in the game they should be a middle of the road line especially if the sign Mangold.

All in all, I think Dixon should be going off the board where Hunt is. As I said before, I'd rather have him before Perine and Foreman and other day 3 backs so I think his value of a late 1st is pretty fair.

Great post. Agree he has all the tools to be a 3-down player and as you said he was a tackle breaking machine as a rookie. I believe PFF has the elusivity numbers. Love him or hate him, the fact that Baltimore didn't draft a RB is a HUGE organizational endorsement for the player. Fantasy football owners tend to panic. Most real life GMs do not.

Now, could they add Blount tomorrow? Who knows. But the post-draft hype for some of the mediocre rookie RBs who were drafted is out of hand. Dixon's not the shiny new toy anymore = great time to buy.
