The Ravens did not draft a RB

Postby eraldo_coil » Sat Apr 29, 2017 6:13 pm

That seemed like one of the biggest questions going into the draft regarding Dixon and Woodhead's value. The Ravens obviously seem content rolling with those two guys.

Let's discuss. Thoughts?

12-team, 0.5 PPR, SuperFlex, TE Premium (+0.5 PPR) | 1QB, 2RB, 2WR, 1TE, 3FLEX, 1SF

QB: Hurts, Herbert, Cousins, Purdy
RB: Taylor, Barkley, Swift, Mixon, N.Harris, Hunt, Dobbins, Strong
WR: Jefferson, Adams, Metcalf, Godwin, Ridley, Lockett, Cooks
TE: Kittle, Njoku, Gesicki

Team 2
12-team, PPR | 1QB, 2RB, 2WR, 1TE, 2FLEX

QB: Wilson, Jones
RB: Robinson, Gibbs, Mixon, Sanders, R. White
WR: Lamb, Godwin, Lockett, Addison, D. Johnson, Meyers, Campbell, R. Moore
TE: Kincaid, Dulcich, Fant

Mark Ingram maybe? Blount as a fallback makes sense too, he and woodhead would make a nice 1-2 on paper.

I agree with sugbear, I think they add someone like Blount before training camp.

They were high on Fournette but who wasn't? I do know they like Dixon a lot and to pass on a pretty deep group of guys this year tells me it wasn't really a need for them. Harbaugh had high praise for him last year and even earlier this off-season when he knew about the positive test. It also tells me they are comfortable with West for a few games before Dixon comes back.

It's still going to be a messy situation. I see a typical game of:

DIxon: 12 carries, 50 yards (.30 TD) - 3 receptions, 22 yards, (.1 TD)
West: 7 carries, 25 yards (.35 TD) - .75 reception, 6 yards (.0 TD)
Woodhead: 4 carries, 20 yards (.1 TD) - 4 receptions, 35 yards (.25 TD)

Obviously makes Dixon and Woodhead viable starters. Dixon in that mid RB2 range and Woodhead as viable FLEX starter/RB3. Both will have low floors and pretty capped ceilings, but there is room in that offense whether people think there is or not. I expect the rushing totals to increase this year, but Baltimore backs also had the second most receptions behind only New Orleans, so having both backs combine for 100 receptions isn't a far fetch.

Assume they'll add a veteran after cuts.

Baltimore has been pretty good at taking BPA and not reaching for need. Seems like most of their picks were praised for being good values.

Definitely a boost to the values of the RBs on the roster, but I'm still avoiding them if I can. Just not sold on any of them and would use this to sell and get good value.

Actually I was reading something a few weeks ago where Harbaugh said that as of now, West is the current starting back. Of course that's probably to push Dixon a little and he can't say Woodhead is the starter with just showing up.

"Is west not in the conversation any longer ?" he's actually the starting running back for the Ravens. Don't tell anyone, no one seems to have noticed.

West is the starting RB because Dixon is suspended 4 games.

Dixon is the biggest beneficiary. Can't deny he's talented, if he could just pickup blocks he could be a 3db.

He was the official starter in the final game, but he was outsnapped by Dixon 33-25 and Dixon got five more carries than West.

Does anyone really expect West to make much of an impact beyond the first four weeks of the season though?
