Bills take WR at 10

Postby norsberry » Thu Apr 06, 2017 8:18 am

I've been seeing a lot of mocks where the Bills end up taking Mike Williams or Corey Davis in the 1st rd. What are people's thoughts on this landing spot? I would have to think this is a big negative as they had the least pass attempts per game last year and have Sammy Watkins already as their WR1. To me this would probably drop Williams/Davis down to the 1.06, depending on where other players wound up.

I think it's a great landing spot. Tyrod has shown a willingness to air it out, and the low passing attempts are a result of nearly no receiving options. Sammy is good when he's on the field, but he missed a ton of games and was injured in half the games he played. Buffalo knows they need WR help regardless of Sammy's health. I could see Williams thriving as a possession receiver. Davis is a more interesting pick in Buffalo because he profiles like WR1 but with Watkins injury history I wouldn't panic if the Bills took him. Sammy has an option in 2018 and is a free agent in 2019. If Davis has the talent to be a WR1 and is more consistent than Watkins that should shine through

As someone who owns Watkins, McCoy, and the 1.04 - this would make me sad.

I dont think its a huge negative but it does hurt their value. Definitely isn't a plus to their value but both of these guys are talented enough to do well in whatever situation they are put in. Most have Williams behind Davis but a situation like this could easily flip flop the two. Williams would probably stay where he is because he shouldn't fall past 1.06 but Davis could go from top 3 to top 5.

I think it's a terrible landing spot. Either of these guys would be a WR2 at best all camp, and with Tyrod throwing deep air balls (that's what he does) there's no room to grow as a WR.

BTW, I go to Bills games. McCoy is the entire offense. The only good passes are when Tyrod throws deep down the sideline. He's got GREAT placement on deep passes. Everything else, not so much. But GOD do the fans love McCoy.....

Anyway, I don't expect the Bills to even take a WR in the 1st. They could draft a QB, and would shock everybody. CB, LB, OL, etc. I don't think they are dead set on a WR. They can do that in RDs 2 or 3.

As a Bills fan give me Davis. Fantasy would be meh, but not death. Who knows what the O will look like post-Rex.

Not to sound rude, but do you know who their coach was last year? Do you know what his identity has been as a head coach?

How about the new OC in Buffalo? Do you know his background, specifically with Tyrod Taylor?

Answering these questions should put your mind at ease.

I am very nervous owning the 1.4 with Mike Williams landing here, CD i feel differently. This is a run first team and i dont think they can support two WR's. Sammy Watkins is very injury prone, true. But if he is on the field, MW and him cant both be dominant. I think this spot would make him slide.

I will usually go with talent over situation. Not my favorite landing spot but I think either would do fine. Things change too fast in the NFL to worry too much about situation.

Let's be honest, half of the mocks I've seen have Davis/Williams going into a WR2 situation, follow me below:

CIN - AJ (Will be 29 but is still crushing it)
TB - Evans
BUF - Watkins (Could an argument be made here with Watkins' fragility? Probably)

TEN - BINGO
BAL - possible dark horse?
AZ - 1 more year of Fitz?

Has DET been rumored to take a WR?

mocks are mostly pointless as the most well know experts are lucky to get 33% correct the day before the draft , 3 weeks out you may as well ask your german shepherd what he thinks . I know it is just food for thought but I just scan some mocks for entertainment I put zero stock in them frankly even the night before the draft let alone today.

I agree with CC, mocks are not worth putting much stock in at all, for fantasy purposes. Though it is fun to think about potential landing spots and the resulting hype (or lack thereof), once draft day rolls around it will be the usual unpredictable nature of the beast.

It makes sense if they really want to surround Taylor with a plethora of playmakers on the outside. Watkins and Williams would be a lot of fun.

I think Williams floor is Arizona at 13. They didn't make any moves at WR in the offseason and Williams would be the heir apparent to Fitzgerald. I guess Arizona could go QB there too, though.

I read a blurb on rotoworld that Sean McDermott didn't want Tyrod Taylor and that Doug Whaley made the decision. Whaley is supposedly on his way out, and McDermott really likes Watson at 10.

Pretty good landing spot. Automatically makes them a WR2 of the team and the potential to be WR1 when/if Sammy gets hurt.
